Can an E30 M3 live on the street or will it just rust to pieces? Obviously a garage is a better home for any car, especially one which is 15+ years old. But is keepin an E30 M3 on the street viable?

I am looking for a weekend, fun 3rd car but fear that, given my lack of a garage, I should be looking for something more modern and rust-proof.

Thoughts?

If you were going to use it every day then yes, if weekends only then no.

Agree, infrequent use without proper storage will soon see the car starting to decay, regular use, eveything being used, everything getting hot, oil being excercised etc and it would be fine.

Thanks guys. Sounds like a great excuse to ues it every day. Unfortunately my commute is 45 miles each way, which I suspect a) the car and b) the petrol expense wouldn't appreciate frown

IMHO, if the car is to live in a street in the South of Spain then its Ok-ish. But in England with the damp and salt, I'd say NO WAY or the next thing you know the car will be rotting from inside out.

My M3 has spent 3 out of the last 5 years in and out of my dads garage and sitting on their drive.

The car hasnt seen any detriment to this! As long as its started regular and left to get up to operating temp (76 degrees IIRC) then it will be fine.

My dad would give it a quick blask once a month and I have seen no plug fouling or tyre flat spotting.
