Well I had my first drive on an autobahn this week and gave the M5 some welly.

I have to say I am still shocked by how quickly it keeps accelerating from 100mph onwards (don't do much of that in Blighty for obvious reasons).
The rev limiter came in at an indicated 176mph and it was still rock solid, and felt like it could carry on accelerating for ever.

Really quite incredible - I guess I expected some more drama or something.
I'm only an average driver, but BMW M cars have a great ability to make you feel like Lewis Hamilton.

Isn't it amazing the way it just powers from 200 to 250 km/h? It just feels as if it will never run out of power.

Cracking cars.

The highest recorded speed i ever had out of mine was 186MPH on the GPS, speedo was showing 192MPH IIRC. Think my best at VMAX was 181 or 182MPH as at speeds above 170MPH the cars brick like aerodynamics require a much greater than 2 mile distance to hit that magic 200MPH.

Still felt rock solid & had more to give, but i shat myself as the GT3 i was following decided to lose his front CF splitter at that speed & i brown trousered royally so pegged the cruising speed back to 150MPH.

Here is a quick vid of an autobahn run I did. M6 was delimited and tighted up maerginally by Hartge. Car was ten days old when I did this run......(evidently there is some speedo optimism but not as much as you might think ...we did subesquent GPS runs and
came up about 7mph short.
