Mainly because they are knocking 10yrs old...

Anyhow, I'd suggest reading up a bit first, you'll find that major mechanical failure is pretty rare.

Just make sure you buy a decent one.

seconded yes

One that has been treated properly and serviced religiously will as far is I've been informed, not suffer any problems.

There are reports of >100k mile Evo's still going strong under the original VANOS units, but then again, there are <40k miles cars on their second or third VANOS.

Generally speaking, these cars require respect, if you neglect them they will fail spectacularly.

Find one that has obviously been maintained by an ethusiast and you can be confident of relaibility.

Man, your spelling is awful!

I've just bought a well looked after example from Pistonheads, though it's a 4 door and I suspect that quite often, they are less ragged and less chav'd up than the more popular coupe.

I've been told that engines are bombproof, the Vanos isn't, but maybe try to find one that's recently been replaced, like mine or factor that in when you are haggling on price, ditto if the clutch has never been changed. Try to find one with a full service history, specialist or main dealer.

I've not had it for long, but it's a great car; the combination of refinement and performance/handling is hard to beat at today's used prices.
