Who has got an E92 M3 on order?
Discussion
Who has got a new M3 on order and is having doubts?
I'm sure lots of people have an opinion on this, but I think it would really help this thread to keep replies to those have got deposits down the E92 M3.
Anyone having second thoughts after seeing so-so reviews? I'm really looking forward to seeing the Evo review, my issue should arrive this Friday. My current plans are to get a manual model for 6 months until the dual clutch one comes out, then keep that for 12-18 months.
I'm wondering whether to change my "strategy" and just have the manual model for a couple of months, and flip it before it depreciates. The thing is, what alternatives are there? I can think of:
BMW 135i Coupe
Mitsu Evo X
Nissan GTR
Porsche 997
I have an irrational hate of 4WD and automatics. What are other M3-owners-to-be thinking?

I've pulled out: don't believe it can sustain a £55k price tag and will do a 'Z4MC' or 'M6'! I don't want a £15k hit in a year.
If they do turn out to be rock-solid for the first year like the E46, I will be kicking myself.
I'm thinking about new 135i or used RS4 or 997.
You'll be able to sell them for list after a year. 2 seat and 6 series BMW's have ALWAYS depreciated heavily. M3's will be in massive demand as usual. If they do turn out to be rock-solid for the first year like the E46, I will be kicking myself.

I get my hairdresser version next spring. Hopedfully DSG will be available by the time i come to spec it.

I;ve just got a mail this morning from my dealer asking if i want a build slot for this year. Is this simply off the back of poeple being unimpressed with them?
the car is awsome, you will love it.I have spent some time in it this week and I love it.
Were people this skeptical moving from e36 to e46?
I'm getting the first one at my dealers which, at the mo., I intend to keep and swap for a DSG after six months. When the time comes if I'm not in love with it I'll change to the new C63 instead which actually is starting to sound like an awsome bit of kit for my day to day barge. I'm not 'wedded' to any particular marque so am quite happy to try them all.
i posted this earlier but had problems with the hosting

No. And this leads me to believe the residuals will be vulnerable. It's hard to walk away from one of the first deliveries after a three-year wait, but I just don't want to take the chance of getting clobbered.
Lastly, parting with my one-owner low-mileage E46 M3 beauty plus £35k cash seems like a bad deal.

The days of depreciation free car buying on new 'Wow' motors seem to be dwindling. Just look at the Aston Martin V8. Started off with people thinking they were going to be protected for the first couple of years...oops there goes £20,000 in the first year!
It'll be the same with the M3, chaps...noone's going to make a profit except BMW...if there's demand BMW will make enough cars to satisfy it. Waiting times for a new one will shrink to the normal 3-4 months. And that means the used ones will depreciate the same as any other 3 series.

I bought an M3 2 years ago with the intention of swapping into a new M3 come dec/jan 2008 but the price of the new one has made me reconsider and i've bought a Z4MC instead and will wait and see what happens with the new one before committing large chunks of money to it, no car is depreciation proof these days and I expect it'll drop heavily after mar 08 and supply picks up and the new DSG box is out, this will be a mass produced car just like the E46, amazed people seem to think it won't!

Agreed! It's inevitable...no one at BMW has said anything about it being limited in numbers...I was 7th on my dealer's list; I originally wanted a manual, but on hearing that the 'auto' will be a DSG I have now opted for that - and my dealer claims that all the six on their list above me are asking for DSG also, so presumably the car will be at least a year away. I could have their first manual car, but would then go to the bottom of the list for a DSG, so I plan to hold onto my E46 until the DSG arrives.
I have kept the E46 from new in 2003, and also expect to keep the new car for four or five years. I accept that it will depreciate like any other car.
I am disappointed that Sutcliffe prefers the RS4, but that is not on my list because I am not willing to spend £55k on a car which will be obsolete almost the moment I get it - and I expect to much prefer the look and feel of the BM. I am not prejudiced against 4WD (I had and loved an Evo 6) but am not convinced that it will improve a car of this type. Ironically in view of some of my other comments, I like that Sutcliffe says the M3 is quieter and has a better ride at low speed that the current car or the RS4.
I like the look of the Audi S5, and if there was an RS5 available today would be seriously interested - but apparently we are going to have an RS6 between now and then, which would not fit my requirements. I shall consider the S5, but expect to prefer the sportier feel and accuracy of the M3.
The C63 sounds like a strong contender, but we have two Mercs in the household so I would choose the M3 for the sake of variety.
I was a bit unhappy when I first heard the price, but when I discovered that the standard spec includes professional nav, electric seats and other goodies it started to sound quite reasonable.
Bottom line - I am looking forward to my E92, and just hope I won't have to wait too long.

Obsolete, so what. They are stopping making the RS4 this year so it will be a relatively rare car and therefore residuals should be good in the long term. If the E92 M3 goes the same way as the E46 there will be massive oversupply and the long term residuals may not be so good. Add to that the possible release of a more hardcore version (CSL?) of the E92 the residuals of the early cars will take a hammering when they become obsolete, as you might say.Steve

By extension though you should keep the e46 m3 then, as he still rates that higher than the RS4!Gassing Station | M Power | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
