Help me, I am an addict!
Discussion
It is now 2.5 years since I sold my M3 Cecotto and I still think of her almost everyday, it is like losing a loved one, I still want an E30 M3 and when push comes to shove this is the only car I really crave (save from winning lottery and buying ludricrous car). I have driven more modern, faster cars and many people don't get the M3 but I just cannot help wanting another one...how do I over come this irrational, sad and geeky obsession for what is an old road racer that would get mullered by most modern diesels?

Give your head a shake! The game has moved on, she never loved you, there are plenty more fish in the sea .... life is like a box of chocolates etc etc
There are far better cars out there than the E30 M3 these days. Try some, you 'might' like them.
I know you are right...There are far better cars out there than the E30 M3 these days. Try some, you 'might' like them.
but this is the problem, I don't like them, what is wrong with me, sure they are fast etc
just going out to buy a copy of Classic and Sports Car

Try an evo 6, might clear your rose tinted specs.
A good friend chopped his 'grale in for an Evo 7, drove that a couple of times just got bored, told him much prefered driving the 'grale. Have an Impreza wagon at present (kids) love it but was used to it after a few weeks...4 years of E30 M3 ownership to me it was still an event, only car I have owned where someone came up to me, whilst I was stopped at traffic lights and asked 'is it real'! Sorry spectacles still of the rose hue variety.
I can understand the attraction but it's all about nostalgia really isn't it ?, plus I can't forget absolutely slaughtering them in my 3 door cosworth years ago, alright, I admit I probably had an extra 100 bhp or so but unless there's a 300 bhp road going rhd E30 M3 out there I reckon a 944T makes more sense.

I know you are right, thanks for helping me through it. I like the idea of a 944T good suggestion.

Are the 944s expenive to run?
I remember lusting after the E30 M3 when it was current, and they were in BTCC. They were rare and expensive and were selling over list. And, in fact, the 'lust' never went away, and none of the subsequent M3s have had quite the same effect as the original.
Over the years I've been a dedicated Porscheophile, having tasted most of the range, and currently have an RS, CS, 987S and 997GT3 - all fantastic, but rather limited accomodation - with two kids .
So, after a long time looking, I finally picked up a stunning late (215) E30 M3 last week. And I'm over the moon. What a gem. Beautifully engineered, gorgeous chassis, superb steering, tactile and more than adequate road performance
The best examples of these little classics are 'special', don't let anyone tell you otherwise. The 944s, particularly the S2 and Turbo, may give you a lot of bang for your bucks - but the little M3 gets my vote

finally an ally, you have summed it up perfectly, for the money I think this is the epitome of (sorry to use Evo cliche) the thrill of driving! a sorted E30 M3 is a superb car i have had one for the last 3 years and mostly used it for trackdays great car and great guys to meet.
as for the Escort Cossie you said it wait for the corners and the 300bhp is blown away, i regulary lap cossies in a track session.
ooohhh another ally! I remember many a cross country journey behind more powerful and more modern machinery and being glued to them. The only car I came across that I could not keep up with in the twisties was an E39 M5 being driven extremely well, left me for dead, although we both left an Audi TT wobbling in our wakes.as for the Escort Cossie you said it wait for the corners and the 300bhp is blown away, i regulary lap cossies in a track session.

Just to get you going my trackday E30 M3 is for sale on here and i have been offered another one so may have 2 for sale soon ?
no stop the temptation! my wife would probably divorce me! she hates the things as they are lhd and with the dog leg she cannot drive them.Edited by trackm3 on Monday 23 July 11:23
but let me know when your road one is for sale, I am not looking for a pristine or special edition as I would want and have to drive it everyday
944T miniscule rear accomodation and the possibility of Porsche size bills if it needs major work, and it's quite an old car to use every day.As for E30 M3s lapping cossies it depends on the spec doesn't it, not saying you don't do it but I don't remember it happening much when they were both in the BTCC.
when it became an even playing field (1991) apart from Andy Middlehurst i dont remember any Fords getting in the mix ? they are quick but like for like cars they do not handle like an M3 E30, mine is 195bhp with carbon airbox and cams so now about 230bhp doing 56's round Brands Indi.

Robb Gravett won the overall BTCC title in a 3 door with a mountune prepped engine, true M3s had more championships previously but only because the other cosworth entries kept taking points off each other.Gassing Station | M Power | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
