Potential M 5 for sale -Help please
Discussion
I was looking at an mid 2001 M5 which has done 53000 miles with 3 previous owners, and having a full BMW Service history for sale approx 16000 pounds.
I havent seen the car yet, but was told that outside and inside it is in good condition, apart from needing a set of back tyres.
After reading so much about the reliability problems esp regarding the Vanos and not having any specific knowledge on how to go about looking at the car, I was wondering what everyones opinion is regarding whether there would be any likely costly services and whether the price is reasonable.
Another problem is the lack of warranty , which if should things go wrong, should prove to be a very costly problem!
Any idea about service costs and the biggest worry is regarding running costs including ?large fuel bills!
Any advise at all thanks..
According to Glass valuation the correct price is 15400 for this model and mileage..

Forget about Glass' valuation, a better indication is to view the prices in the market place at the moment and pitch the car against these.
Try www.bm3w.co.uk for plenty of good info on the car, and www.m5board.com for a more comprehensive look at warranty issues, modifications, buying guides etc. albeit with a majority american view on things.
Good luck with the purchase, the e39 M5 is great allround supersaloon.
