right after reading alot about vanos system faults and them being noisy in operation regardless of age ive been trying to look for info about removing the system but cant find much searching on the web.

now im under the impression that vanos is a variable valve timing system thats designed to improve low/midrange torque without sacrificing top end power, kinda bmw's version of v-tec but more expensive/complicated and way less relible.

so whats involved in removing the vanos system completely?is it an easy diy job or do you need replacement parts to blank off holes ect?

also how does the car drive without the vanos system?basically just a bit down on low end torque??

thanks

I don't run Vanos on my racer but i'm not sure if i'd recommend it for a road car, we have race cams and all the timing is tweaked and mapped specifically on a RR to compensate. Vanos removal is not complicated per se if you have someone that knows how to do it.

BMW Car were running some months ago an E36 M3 which had the Vanos removed. Not a complicated job and although no bargain the results gave more power but with less torque.

Not altogether a tricky task.... but needs too be done by someone with experience in that dept as I've seen some really poor examples.

Not difficult if you know your spanners. If you need to replace take a look at www.drvanos.com Not expensive and from www.bimmer.com some good reports.
