to steer than its rival(the new M3)."

Full quote:
"Here’s the really odd bit though: for once Audi has managed to produce a car that’s more satisfying to steer than its rival. To be honest, no M3 since the E30, and I include the CSL in that, has steered as well as it might. This new car suffers the same problem, not being positive enough in those first few degrees of movement. At 2.3 turns between locks it’s not slow and it does respond immediately, but the Audi’s weighting just off centre gives you far more confidence."

From this article: CAR MAGAZINE: RS4CAB VS M3 where CAR has tested an RS4 Cab and a new M3. Strange comparison indeed-they based on the fact that they both have two doors....

Some nice videos on there.that V8 sounds awesome and looks better in motion but can this steering thing really be true! The balance of the world will be horribly upset.

Maybe they just making it for a bit of controversy because the M3 is just so dammned good eh?

So a Quattro-fied Audi steers better than an M Car? <Cue riotous laughter>

Unlike many I love Quattro, and I'd always have it given the choice, but let's not be silly.

Not just a quattro car but a cabriolet quattro at that!!! Find it hard to believe myself. Is CAR magazine known for talking dribble?

To be fair to Chris Chilton, he goes on to say

"So which would we choose?

Not the RS4 cabrio I’m afraid. Right engine, right number of doors, but wrong car. Too wobbly, too heavy and, at £60k compared to £50k for the M3, too expensive. But a £50k RS4 saloon or the fabulous Avant? That could be a whole different story."

I'm guessing the Cab was the only RS4 available on Audi's press fleet at the time Car was invited to drive the M3 in Spain.

That write up reads like a journalist trying to be technical.

I remember reading a comment by Steve Sutcliff a while ago ( if I can find it, i'll post it in full) about the e46 m3.

He said that a Bmw engineer had told him that the steering on the m3 had been specifically designed so that there was more 'feel' when you were on opposite lock than when driving normally (or words to that effect)

Maybe this is the reason why Bmw have apparently got their steering 'wrong' for so long..........

Very true. Audi UK's complete press fleet was down in Marbella, we had to take the same EVO long-termer with the dent in the front bonnnet (still un-repaired). It did seem rather amusing to see CAR trying to use an RS4 cab.

Yes. You will see it in the next edition of EVO published in just over a weeks time.

I had the job of driving the RS4 the near 2000 miles down to Marbella, but thankfully (for me) Rog (Green) got the job of driving her back,

Well their issue back in Feb with the new M3 was just made up bollarks, so I assume this is just as made up too.

I await a long-term report or a proper big group test to get a proper view vs the competition.

Great....I trust the piece will be allot better than the CAR article...

So you didn't fancy driving the RS4 back then..is that because you were just tired or don't like it?

We had arranged in advance for Roger to drive it back, just to minimise impact to my work. Stupid eh?, I should have just taken the week off, because I ended up trying to fit 5 days of work into the 3 remaing days left (whilst also writing up my feedback for the article, and preping the videos we took). What was I thinking of? Next time, hopefully for COTY I will just book a week off and indulge myself..

Tough life eh, trying to squeeze in all that driving of horribly fast cars on race tracks and Spanish roads. I know you get this offer allot but whenever you need help I'm about....I'm based in Athens now though so will be happy to be your guide on the next launch you will have to do over here!

PS: I believe BMW launched the new X5 here but I dobt we will have any performance car launches here due to the lack of racetracks. Some of the mountain roads here a superb for the likes of the M3, RS4 et al with stunning scenery indeed.

Well that's the point - said motoring hacks are less likely to be nice to your latest offering if you've despatched them to a Little Chef just outside Wolverhampton on a wet Tuesday morning in July. wink

True indeed Dunk. I can just picture the scene-launch of the new M3 CAB at Clackett lane services with the rain pissing down the moment anyone touches the switch for the hood!

The thing is Spain has some decent race tracks to with the roads hence you having more launches there than here. Over here in Greece there really isn't anything suitable-the race tracks we have here are just plain crap and limited so for that reason I think we see launches of things like X5'S and cabrio models but nothing very performance oriented.
