Why is it that a £150 Tom Tom has full postcode search on sat nav but not my new M5?

My old M3 didn't either but that was an '03 and I assumed they'd upgraded them by now - but no; still the same!

BMW tell you it's just as good, because you can put in the building number and the first four digits of the postcode.
It isn't though because I often don't have the building number - just a name like a restaurant or a hotel - I end up driving up and down aimlessly.

Is it just me being a grumpy old man or does anyone else find it frustrating?

I get that comment quite often when updating nav's,we also have an offer on 02-07 nav discs which everyone thinks they are going to get full postcode search, sadely not.
At least you havent got an E65 7 series-they cant have it at all unless its an 06 model.

Espresso - I'm amazed they haven't updated them. My Z4MC Sat Nav has exactly that problem...Tom Tom is hugely better as a nav tool. I assumed that, given the Z4 shape is coming up for a rethink that it was just the older style Nav and the new ones would all have the latest funtions. Astonishing that they haven't changed it! They're not alone though...when I looked at Cayman's before I bought mine, the Porsche PCM thing doesn't do Post codes at all! Shocking!

Does anyone know if the Audi system is better?

They do...but only the first 5 letters. So it won't zero right in on a specific road or sequence of numbers etc. Annoying. It also doesn't do a proper '3D' type view from above and behind...unlike Tom Tom, you can't really use it to help you take the right junction etc. It's far inferior.

If you're talking about your TVR, I'm not surprised.
No hand brake will hold that beast!

(No dodgy references to the 'porn' comment intended..)

Well, in the tvr, its to be expected, its only a grab handle. The BMW one is shocking too, had it adjusted today in the service, so should be better.

Try starting a new thread. You may have more success - Could be a dodgy earth or maybe the ignition switch? There again it may be a relay or solinoid (sp)?
