Porsche 964 to E46 M3
Discussion
Hi chaps.
Thinking about moving into the 21st Century and chopping in the 964 for an M3. Thing is I don't really want to add more cash so budget is £16-£18k.
Seems a few for sale with about 70-80k on the clock and out of warranty. Not fussed for nav or 19" and def not SMG (too many horror stories).
But what is the real deal with running one outside warranty at this sort of miles?
I had a 330 before the 964 so pretty up to speed with general running costs just want to check that theses engine failure stories are pretty few and far between? I could do with cutting back on mega running costs having spent a fortune on the porker.
How about a warranty from Auto Protect/AA?
Cheers
James

Provided the bottom-end recall mod was done, along with the critical 1200 mile service, these are very tough cars.
There are no equivalent horror stories along the lines of the Porsche RMS failures and engine/gearbox blow-ups.
You will find the M3
faster
smoother
better handling
more economical
more practical
cheaper to run.
The only thing it lacks is that 911 'magic'.
