...just realised its the E92 M3 isn't it not E90. Anyway........

Hi guys,

This is my first question on these boards.... I just wanted to know what your opinions were with regards to the possible price drop of the current M3 (coupe and convertible) when the new E92 M3 comes out.

Do you think they will stay as they are, i mean you can pick up a coupe on here for as little as £14500 now.
Considering getting one as my next car but not sure if I should wait.

What do you think,

Cheers

Karl

At this moment in time the age of the E46 is what affects prices. Once the E92 arrives the E46 will be split into two groups....Those still in warranty and those that aren't.
2006 and 2007 E46 will feel the pinch but the stuff that's under £20K will not be affected by the £50K+ E92 as they will apeal to very different customers.

For that money you'll only get a dodgy high-mileage rat.

The launch of a £55k car is going to have zero impact on E46s under £20k - totally different market.

The only E46s that will suffer are the very late cars where some optimistic sellers are hoping to get c.£40k.

You'll find this topic has already been debated to death if you do a quick search.

Dont think it will do much to the mid ranged cars ie 20-30k for at least a year as there will only be a few new m3s in the country for a while which as stated will only affect prices of 2005-06 cars which are nearer the new prices of the e92. Only when there are lots of m3 e92 on the road will prices of the e46 be properly affected and that may be a while yet...

Although they're supposed to be only 300 in the 1st year coming to the UK, i bet it'll be alot more come march 2008, so by september i'd expect to see lots and that's when it'll start hurting later E46 prices I reckon

Isn't there a precedent with the e36 vs e46 - M3's drop very quickly once started...

I hate to disagree with you again on this, mate, but I still don't see your logic. Depreciation cascades downwards. If the newest E46s loose value as a result of the new M3 coming out, the others at all the different stages of age/mileage/value will also be affected because the newer ones are worth less.
