M5 e39 facelift. im still learning!!

hi all just got this car and puzzled about something. i have a button on the steering that looks like a voice recognition, but nothing happens when i press it therefore i assume that it dont ave it or i cant use it! can i add it what does it do how easy to add and how much, in anybody's experience

That button is for answering the phone, if there's one fitted. Voice control system was available as an optional extra, but it's quite rare. I've no idea if it can be retro fitted, or what the cost would be.

its the 'shut up wife' button. Use it if your missus is gabbing on too much (about driving too fast)

I would love one of those buttons

I normaly get a very sore left arm when the missis is in the car

If you hold the button down for about 3 seconds it will ask for your command if you have voice control fitted. If you just press it nothing happens unless you are answering the phone or dialling from the phone directory.

If you have voice control you have to press and hold, try it and if nothing happens then you know it's not fitted.
