Found this video from m5board.com and during it there is a race between an M5 and the new m3. Unfortunately the editor of the film decided to use music, so we cant hear any engine sounds, but its safe to say the driver of the M3 went WOTT. The M5 though comprehensively destroys the M3 from approx 90mph to 180mph:

its at 4:50 onwards,

Not entirely surprised. It was the same with E46 vs E39. In my first E46 M3, I found myself joining an empty Autobahn early on a Sunday morning just in front of an E39 M5 who was cruising at a gentle speed. He was keen to play (the E46 M3 was quite new then) and so we both slowed down (empty Autobahn remember) took off. I left him behind from about 50 km/h to 150/160 or so, but then he gained on me steadily and left me behind at around 200. From 200, he just took off into the distance. At those speeds power is what matters, so it will be the same with E92 vs E60.

Take them on the track and it will be a different matter though.
