Z4M Roadster....Shock!
Discussion
Hi there!
Bought my Z4M Roadster in Jan 07.(£44k)
Just had it valued from the dealer as fancied getting rid of it for an 06 M3 as boot too small and far too impractical these days (Going on hols soon and cant even get a suitcase in there to get to airport!)
...have a guess how much its worth now...!
>>>>>>
£31k....Thirty one F(*%^%g grand!
oh my god....

Yes sadly the case i'm afraid. I bought my Z4C for approx £35K inc. delivery and when I said I wanted rid due to business reasons the dealer bid me £25k. Fortunately and in the end the car was bought by BMW GB for full list as it spent so much time off the road in the first 2 months.Bought my Z4M Roadster in Jan 07.(£44k)

It doesn't help that you can apparantly get 14% discount now on a coupe.

yeah bought it from new....devastated is not the word.
The dealer said to me, steer clear of an M3 unless you want to wait for the new one as they will drop like a stone in value...have a Z4m...they will hold their money big time!...especially with the summer coming!
Think he did a jedi mind trick on me!
Yes, going to have to keep it....gutted.

All I can say is, don't make the same mistake twice, buy a clean CSL and you should be close to enjoying a year of depretion free motoring - not including servicing costs etc. Then again, the market could fall flat on its face and you'll lose another £10K...please no, just bought mine!
I'm sure you would get closer to 33K for your Z4M privately although thats still a BIG loss. Must be pretty well specced?

Catherine, I had mine for 3 weeks then it spent 5 weeks off the road (wiring loom fault and couldnt fit a new one so had one made in america for it)...?...really really want rid of it.
How long was yours off the road for?
Snap!!!!! How long was yours off the road for?
Mine was a broken wire in the loom affecting the air con. It was about 18 days off the road with that problem an 3 days with the dsc problem.

Oooo...not good mate...sorry to hear that. Dealer was indeed taking the piss by telling you the coupe would have solid residuals...I got 10% of my Coupe when i bought it in April, and even with that, it's a big drop in depreciation...however I knew it would happen - it's the reason why I financed it with a guaranteed future value...I know I can't do worse than giving it back and walking away with nothing regardless of how much it's lost...I've just got to keep it for 3 years. As Catherine says, the discounts you can get on new ones (I heard one guy got 14% off) are only going to hammer values. Unlucky. But look on the bright side...you get to keep it and it's a fab motor! ;-)The dealer said to me, steer clear of an M3 unless you want to wait for the new one as they will drop like a stone in value...have a Z4m...they will hold their money big time!...especially with the summer coming!
I hope my old friend Deutscher doesn't read the bit about
M3 dropping like a stone...it'll open a whole new can of worms about M3 residuals!! ;-)
We debated this at length recently:

Seems to have got even worse!

This is all too scary, i pick up my z4mc in two weeks. Test drove the car last week with the clock reading 34miles... List price was £47k incl toys, and i secured the deal with a 26% discount!!!! I only hope this helps me keep ahead of the depreciation curve...
I feel for anyone who has lost so much money in such a short time - someone should write to BMW GB... these ain't astra's were forking out our hard earned cash for!!!!! It's down to simple supply-demand management which they should clearly have well sorted - you just don't flood the market like this.. do you??

It's a shame they are losing so much money as they aren't actually a bad car. Assuming they are not dissimilar to the convertible, I do think they are poor value for money. We have a Z4 convertible and it's made of fairly mediocre materials that are not particularly well assembled and has various niggles that simply should not affect a well built car. For example, the bonnet catch doesn't work, oil warning light keeps coming on for no reason, handbrake disengages itself occasionally , a few squeaks and rattles, both rear springs have snapped etc etc. It's not an early car (2005) and I for one wouldn't buy another BMW off the back of this one.
Seemingly, some car brands can stand a big mark-up because it's a quality piece of kit with a very good image. Porsche are a prime example here and put just enough "quality" into the entry-level Boxters to get away with it. I just wonder whether BMW have shot themselves in the foot by flooding the market with poverty spec 3-series and clown shoe hatchbacks that are seemingly only bought by fleets and rental outfits. The end result being serious brand devaluation.
Still the best straight six in production though. The one we have is ultra ultra smooth. Shame is misfires like a bastard when it's damp.
Rich mentioned the Astra - I recently hired a 1.6 Astra on a vist to Switzerland. I have to say, the build, interior plastics, fit and finish etc was every bit as good as our £30k Z4.
I haven't been in a coupe, so if it's a different kettle of fish, the above may well not apply. All IMHO of course.

I have a LHD Porsche 928 GT which has over 220,000 miles on the clock. The car has been driven hard in Germany before I bought it. I also have a new Z4M Coupe. After a month of living with the BMW I made a small bet with myself - if my BMW is in the same state as the Porsche at 220,000 miles - rattle and squeak free, also ssuming it lasts that long , then I would buy a hat from BMW and eat it. Blimey - good deal! I paid about £39000 for mine in March...sounds like you did about £2000 better than me. Although I did get £1500 deposit contribution from Beemer finance.I feel for anyone who has lost so much money in such a short time - someone should write to BMW GB... these ain't astra's were forking out our hard earned cash for!!!!! Its not going to get any better I'm afraid. You can get massive discounts on everything including newly launched models. BMW are also forcing their own staff to change their cars more often as they need to get more cars registered to please the boys in Germany.
Im sure this must have a long term affect on BMW Finance as well. They are so keen on PCP's yet people are just going to hand the keys back at the end rather than pay a balloon on a car that is clearly worth much less.
