Hi all,

Been out of country for a week came back to birdshit all over the bonnet of my M5 - despite soaking before removal there are now half a dozen "holes" in the lacquer on the bonnet - one right down to the paint.

Is this a complete respray job or has anybody use a mobile chip repair company in this situation.

Heartbreaking as otherwise the paint is pretty well mint.

Chris

Did you soak the bird crap with kitchen paper and hot water? Upon removal how bad is the marring? You can remove 90% of the residue with a PC (Porter Cable Polisher), some decent polish, a sealant, glaze and then a ouple of coats of wax. What car cleaning kit do you have and where are you? Any decent valeter for £100 would do a top job!

its nasty stuff! you need to carefully cut it back with 2000grit wet and dry, and buff it back up with some 3m polishing compound, cant remember the name of the stuff but its in a bit yellow bottle, it will need polishing with an elecrtic bufffer tho! We used to do it at my old work, can get most of it out as long as it hasnt eaten thru the laquer and into the base coat!!!

Quick update - muck has gone through the laquer and into the topcoat so its a respray job on the bonnet - aaaaarrrgh!!

Beware of starlings total cost 320 quid plus VAT.

I am off to spend some money on an air rifle I think.
