Previous to this year BMW Extended Warranties for the M3 were brilliant, covering almost every non-wear-and-tear item and at about £600 were good value. I had one for years 4 and 5 for my car and hardly ever used it but it gave me great confidence to own an M3 after the first 3 years. This year they have increased the cost to £1050 (<60K) or £2100 (>60K, <100K), eliminated a lot of items and slapped a £250 excess on the warranty. Since I am just about to hand out £250 to extinguish an air-bag warning light I am a little bit annoyed at this change. Don't mind the cost of the warranty but not many BMW repairs cost less than £250. Also the excess for non-M 3-series is £100 and as far as I know the air-bag systems are just the same. Suddenly owning out-of-warranty M3s has become much more expensive !

I know how you feel, mine's up for renewal in a couple of months, and I'm seriously considering just putting the money in a high interest account and taking my chances.

Mine is up on June 16th, really not sure what to do, either chop it in quick or pay the warranty and keep it until next year, didn't realise it was a reduced cover though, might look at a non BMW one in that case, its boocks IMO

Never really considered that TBH, but with the current depreciation on the E46 M3 it might not be wise, then again there might be better deals available, i'll do some digging!

I'm not going to bother next time round, you'd have to have an engine or gearbox failure to make it worth while and you can use non BMW dealers too.

The cost of BMW's warranties for M cars has become a bit of a joke and is the sole reason that I haven't upgraded to an M3 in the last year. It's going to be approaching £3k per year to keep a 60k+ mile M3 on the road in terms of warranty and servicing, which is enough to look after a Ferrari 328. They should be careful with these high charges - they'll put people off buying used M cars, which will in turn hurt the residuals, which in turn will put people off buying new M cars.

Agreed - the pricing has got silly I chose not to renew and am going to take my chances. Agree that you will need something big to let go to really 'use' a £2k warranty.

Surely doing a part ex deal with BMW dealer to get the AUC warranty is madness and you will lose significantly more than £2k in that deal.

Just my two pence worth - and for info my car has been faultless, never claimed when I did have the warranty anyway (touches wood with both hands!)

I ditched the BMW warranty and tried Warranty Direct - got a good price for my M Roadster as a member of the BMWCC --£480 includes Vanos and £25 excess

Any other warranty companies to look at? My car is due on the 16th and i'm seriously looking at changing the car instead but might put a warranty on it for resale and sell it privately

I didn't bother this time round either - why pay so much extra for the std. 3 series parts?

They're not standard though, that's the point of an M, it;s not a 3 series with a better engine, the suspension, braking, diff and as a result performance and handling are on a completely different level to anything below it, i had a 330ci before it and the M blows it into the weeds in every department

HK is crap anyway and the Sat Nav shouldn't really be an issue, should it?
