I'm looking to purchase an E24 M635 csi, and have located a couple that look decent on the web. I cannot however find any price guide (other than Parkers online which values an '89 M6 at 1700 pounds!).

I recalled seeing an E24 buying guide in BMW Car magazine, but this didn't address prices.

Does anyone have a range of prices for these cars based on age / mileage / condition?

Tks in anticipation.

I think price really depends on condition with these classics now.

I reckon you could demand up to 15k for a very low mileage one but if I was buying one I would look up to 10k for an 80 thousand miler in good nick.

yes price depends on condition. I'd recomend start at aroud £5k for something that needs a good bit of work but beware these things can really eat away at your savings ! I'd personally start a bit higher in the price band than that otherwise you may be getting into something you might regret.

£15k will get you a fairly nice car, not a low milage example i'm afraid. Very Low milage examples are changing hands north of £20k ! yikes

Those Beemers are great cars without the later BMW's attitude. Love that 3.5 and they're cheap at the moment.

Post pics when you have found one OK?

Classic and Sports Car says:

Show: 11k
Average: 4750
Resto: 1K

I reckon you would need to pay 7-8k for something which dosen't need work on it.

I'm not doubting what `Classic And Sports Car` writes in print but, the market at the minute (and for some time now) has said differant. The problem is with these is that it's a sellers market. The realise of the `wannerbe` 6 series wink has generated a lot more interest in what is/was, a deseriable and wanted motorcar.

I wish that i hadn't had to sell mine when i did. If i'd had kept it for another year max, i reckon that i could have got another £2-3k !

Well of late mint low mileage regular 635CSi Highlines have been reaching £15k and 'M's are much rarer.

As mentioned earlier, condition, provenance and miles have a huge influence on value ( Highlines with mega miles start at a grand!)

Its rumoured the guy with the countries best (shown at Gaydon) was offered £50k ... and refused!

Personally I cant see a car with sub 100k miles, excellent service history and condition coming for less than £10k probably closer to £20k

Each car is very much an individual, guess at the end of the day, if you see a car thats right for you, you need to decide your own value and see if it can be bought for that!

Thanks for all the feedback!

The two M6s on the BMW Car Club website look very promising and I will be following up. The budget I had in mind was 10k, so they're in the right ball park.

Other than rust (especially front wings), and timing chain/tensioner, is there anything specific I should look out for?

Thanks again.

Where do you want me to start hehe

I'd strongly suggest getting any potential car down to a local indipendents and have them have a look at it, they'll know what to look for.

Suspention (sp?) all round. Remember these are a heavy car so will be suffering under there.

Electronics inside. Again check this all works. Poke everything then poke it again.

General body condition (obvious i know). The youngest of these is fast aproaching 18 years old now. Be sure to keep a good eye on the way that the door opens - they weigh a ton....well almost.

The `Nose` of the car. Bonnet gap should be nice and even. When your in the car you have no idea what so ever of where the front is !

Tyers. Sounds silly this one but if your looking at a car with origional wheels on there, check the tyers over as these are TRX's and cost a fortune to replace and are a little hard to get hold of now.

I'm sure i'll think of a few more when i get off line. I'll open some of my old books and have a route around for you. Hope this is of any help mate.
