Hey people
Just signed up to piston heads, so hello to everyone.
Just bought myself a 2002 M3. I collect it next week. I have bought it thru a BMW dealer and the car is in excellent condition with many extra toys.......sadly tho....NO TV or SAT NAV.
question is...how easy is it to install an original sat nav/tv unit into my M3, and how much is it going to cost me?

If anyone has done this please advise.
Thanks for looking and all comment welcome

Welcome to PH Colin wavey and a fine choice in motorcar may i add.

As far as i'm aware (i'm sure that i'll be corrected if i'm wrong) the fitting of the unit isn't actually that difficult BUT, i think it's fairly expensive unit to purchase - as well as the TV part in the dash you've a seperiate CD changer thinggy in the boot for the Sat Nav. I'm sure that BMWCar Magazine have covered this at some point. Might be worth you getting in touch with their office and grabbing a back issue from them.

I'm sure others will be along with more useful info than i can give anytime soon.

Rumour has it that it will cost in the region of £1500-£2k to retro fit this to an E46. I asked the same question on another forum and one of the guys explained what you have to do..... and its more than a bit awkward/complicated. I have come to the conclusion that it is cheaper and easier to buy an aftermarket unit from pioneer/kenwood etc. A friend has one which is touch screen, and the quality is excellent. Having one of these units also has the advantage of being bang up to date, and not having 5 year old maps etc.

If you go to Halfords they'll sell the relevant wiring loom so that you can have the aftermarket stereo and still retain the use of the steering wheel controls.

There is a guy on ebay who retro fits for £1500 all in. Will add more than that in value to your car. Glass's guide state that M3's have to have comms and met paint for the valuation stated.
