Have just hit the big 30! my last car was a nissan skyline 2.5 turbo which i loved but for my next car im thinking of getting something classy and sporty that has abit of grunt! Since im thinking of going for a diesel the fuel consumption should be good but i want to know from owners what they think of the performance? it would be a 2001 530d m-tec sport model i'd be after, all replys welcome

Yes, it is good but also consider the 530i or even the 540i - some scary stories about injectors and turbos going BANG on the diesels.

Also, you will get more responses if you posted it on the BMW forum rather than the M forum...

in a word 530d's are awesome, just had a swift 145 out of mine on the run into work just now. woderful steering and brakes, m tec suspension helps in the corners - take it steadyish and you get the best part of 40mpg average.

Try the 530d M-sport then the 535d M-Sport, you will want the 535d. The 535d has all you need:

Power (60n/m more torque than the new M5)
economy
style
class
good re-seller

You will find it difficult to get a used one as they get snapped up very quickly so get you name down soon if you want a used one.

You are talking about the E60 - the question was about the E39 530d readit
