Hi,

I am thinking of ugrading the sat nav in my M3, I was wondering how easy this was and whether its something anyone has done on here already. I have Sat Nav Professional.

There is an advert in a magazine for the 2007-2 Navigation High or Professional DVD & v29.1 software update would this work and how would I carry out ther update?

Thanks

The update is easy enough-from software disc v26 it gives you persective view aswell as overhead, the images are more user friendly.
if you have the v29 disc all you do is make sure the sat nav screen is on navigation(not tv etc-if it is it wont let go of the disc when its finished).Put the disc in the nav unit and just confirm when it asks.

To get perspective you will need to go into the nav service/hidden menu to turn it on.

with 2007-02 you will have postcode search

What year is your M3? Before upgrading, please check you have the MK4 navcomputer (it has DVD written on the front), as depending on the year you could also have a MK3 nav which is CD-rom only.

I am also interested in this!! I have checked my nav system model which is a mark4 which i think means i would be able to get the perspective view from the 2007-01 disk?? Would i still need to buy the v29 software to upgrade my current software rather than just installing the lastest 2007 dvd and getting the perspective view??? cheers for any help.

You need the V29.1 to upgrade the software in the nav-computer (already v27 gives you the 3D perspective mode), and the nav DVD 2007-2 High to have the latest maps.

Hi Rassi,

I have just checked and it looks like I have the MK3 Nav as I cant see any DVD symbol anywhere. Does that mean that upgrade would be impossible for me?

Thanks

If it is indeed a MK3 Nav, you can't have the perspective view - MK4 only. You can still have the nav software upgraded to v23 (would display as 3/63 IIRC), which improves the graphics and calculation time slightly, as well as getting a new map CD which would still be available on CD-ROM.

i have the mk 4 dvd in the boot and would also like to upgrade the system. is there an idiots guide like a step by step manual with price guides as i have heard lots of different things about it and there seems to be a wide range of software prices on ebay.
can the version be borrowed off a file sharing site ?

I found a guy on the 'net that runs off the latest CD's/DVD's from BMW as copies including the full camera database. About £30'ish through PayPal I seem to remember?

If people PM me I'll send you his email address.

I've just upgraded this weekend from a MK3 to a MK4 with the camera database.

The camera update to the nav DVD info is freely available to download on the X5 forum.

All works well and was just a pull out, plug in affair.

Makes my navigation look like a tomtom. Problem is though there is no verbal warning of a speed camera.

I think I may get hold of a MK4 unit and carry out the upgrade. Julian, do you know of any decent places to get the MK4 units from? How easy was it to install, do I need any special tools?

Thanks

got mine from this chap

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/sat-nav-BMW-NAV

No special tools, The unit simply slides out the back of the car with a red and blue clip on the back.

I disconnected the battery of the car
pulled out the old one, put the new one in. one red and one blue clip on the back.
reconnected the battery.
turned the car to igition 1.
put the V29 update software DVD in (supplied)
about five monutes later the car said it was done.
ejected the V29 update disk
turned the ignition off
put the supplied nav disc in.
turned the ignition on

I made a best offer of £250, and he accepted it. The unit was delivered only three days later. The only problem with him was that he wanted a wire transfer which the bank charged me £21 for and said it would take five business days, although I pretty much think he sent the unit before he'd actually accepted payment.

Go over to x5 world. They have a full guide on sat nav and upgrading which is all the same for E46.

Try this.

In the setup screen hold the menu button for about 10 seconds. A new screen will come, know as the secret menu. Scroll down to navigation/element, click on perspective to activate.

Software only. You need an up to date map and more up to date OS. You could do it all yourself. How brave are you! X5world is your friend
