Have had the car for 6 days cloud9

The tyres on the front are Michelin Pilot Sport 245/40 ZR18 but are of differant tread type and one has got 3 mil more tread than the other, apart from that they have got loads of tread.

This may sound over the top but I would be happier with new boots on the front

Any advice would be great bow

.... have used Dunlop SP9000s for over 100,000 miles in my E39 M5 - they last about 30k each set and they are good in the wet but not as good in the dry. SP2 last between 8 and 10K (friend swears by them... but I won't fork out for tyres every 10 weeks on ANY car I own!)

Always replace pairs of tyres if at all possible unless one goes and the other one is nearly new. Its well worth seaching the online sites for tyre deals but the Michelins are not cheap, but do offer great performance and road holding. I am not a fan of the Continentals on an M5, but Europan Goodyears are OK and so are Bridgestones.

The Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3 is well recommended, and deals can be had, as is the Michelin PS2 but expensive.

I saw a review in the latest Sport Auto (German), tested on a 335i, and the new Pirelli PZero is supposed to be the absolutely amazing:

DRY:

Pirelli PZero : 147

Michelin PilotSport2 : 133

Hankook Ventus S1 EVO : 132

Bridgestone NO Potenza RE050 : 131
Dunlop

SportMaxx GT: 129

Goodyear F1 Assymetric : 124

Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta : 122
Continental

SportContact3 : 119

Yokohama Advan Sport : 115

WET:

Hankook Ventus S1 EVO : 95

Goodyear F1 Assymetric : 93

Pirelli PZero : 92

Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta : 81

Continental SportContact3 : 81

Dunlop SportMaxx GT: 80

Michelin PilotSport2 : 73

Yokohama Advan Sport : 66

Bridgestone NO Potenza RE050 : 63

Thanks for the help here thumbup

Had a feeling there would be loads to choose from confused

I like the look of the Goodyear Eagle and the Michelin ps2 but i think i need to do some more research into what is going to be the best for me.

Maybe i should play around with these for a while as they have a good amount of tread on them.

I think my friends are getting fed-up with hearing about my new car laugh

I swear by PS2's - I've driven on Dunlops and Goodyears but personally find the Michelins fantastic wet and dry.

Which makes Rassi's post interesting - I wonder if when it comes down to it - its as much what suits your own driving style as 'the ultimate tyre'

Used pirelli p zero rosso for 5 years on E39 M5's and they were excellent, if you don't mind changing every 10-12k miles. Eventually had to change back to original Dunlops, and what a nightmare they were, especially in the wet. Fortunately sold car a few weeks later, px for an E60

Just put full set of PS2's on my E60 M5 and they're superb. Much better than the original Conti's from BMW...

Like John, I changed the conti's on my E60 to PS2's, and they are great.

At least until I picked up a nail after 4 weeks in one of the rears, and N******l tyres say under warranty, but is repairable, not replaceable. Don't fancy that on the 'ring next month or derestricted on the autobahn.

Get quotes, and then its worth seeing if your local BMW Dealer can match what you get quoted... Mine supplied and fitted 4 new tyres for £10 a corner cheaper than buying off the internet - they were on some kind of price guarantee from BMW. I'd already played Mytyres and Blackcircles off against each other until they were within a penny; and then BMW service manager said they'd match or beat it including fitting if I could prove the price!
