A trader friend has asked me to sell his D reg M6 for him.
Had someone come to look today and they said is wasn't an M6 because:
No dogleg gearbox
No leather roof lining
635csi sticker in boot

Trader friend states not all M6's came with these options and all M's came with 635 sticker in boot.
Any opinions guys?

The US M6 was called the M6, the Euro version was M635CSi. Not all had the leather roof, some did, known as highline, those that didn't known as halfline. M635CSi's only had dog leg box up until the end of 1984 I think then resorted to standard getrag box. What does it say on the engine, up until 1989 the engine had BMW 24-6 written on it later this was replaced for BMW M Power for the highline models. What does the log book say? There were lots of options available when purchasing the M635CSi and the spec changed depending on it's age.

Hope this helps, let me know if yuou need to know any more info.

This one has an M power engine.
Don't have v5 at moment.
Sounds like this could be a genuine one.
Does the £5k he wants, sound dear?

LHD or RHD?
Mileage?
Condition?
Leather?
Colour?

5K, obviously depends upon lots of factors but in the right region as long as genuine.

The VIN serial (last 7 digits) # for a 1986 RHD should be 0760264 to 0760366
The VIN serial # for LHD should be 1052628 to 1053136

ETA - how does it drive, go like the clappers or just quite nice, big difference in bhp.

If it's in fair condition then £5k is low. One of the main issues is mileage. The timing chain should be replaced at around 100k and if this hasn't been done (can cost north of £1500) then prices dip accordingly. If it has had it done then anything under £8k is a good deal (provided the car is sound).

FYI my M6 didn't have a dog-leg box (none did as far as I know, all were 5-spd Getrag units) and no leather roof lining (it was a 1985 model). The easiest way to check you have a real one is manual box (manual 635's are v.rare) and the engine which will have BMW Motorsport on the side.

IMHO options don't make a blind bit of difference to price. Most came with everything (esr, ew, em, aircon, sports seats, trip comp etc.) Condition is all with these cars.
