Hi All,

Enjoying my E39 M5 collected from Munich Legends a few weeks ago now - running really well and getting to know it better every day.

Looking ahead to the end of the 6 month warranty period that comes with the car has anyone actually claimed for a VANOS unit from Warranty Direct, Warranty Wise or WarrantyWorks.

Prices seem to vary a bit from company to company but £900 ish for 2 year mechanical warranty seems like a reasonable punt in case the worst happens.

Cheers

Chris

Warranty Direct is the warranty that is recommended by the BMW Car Club and it does cover vanos units. I have no experience of the company, so I've no idea what they're like if you have to make a claim.

Look closely, most of these companies have a £1K limit per claim. Which essentially makes them about as much use as a chocolate teapot!

BMW is the only warranty worth having on these cars. Unfortunately you can't renew it if it's been allowed to lapse... unless you are very friendly with someone at a main dealer.

If the car is driven carefully for the first 8-10 miles each day and serviced well by a specialist NOT a main STEALER, Vanos worries are few and far between. The whole issue is totally blown out of proportion and does not effect ever car nor one in five. Don't panic.

Not per claim, thats the total limit for all claims in 1 year.

Thanks guys - you're right maybe I should just relax - I am careful to warm it up properly before letting rip at all and it has full BMW history so should be OK I hope - 6 months warranty from the dealer as well.

Munich Legends have lent me an E36 M3 whilst they fix some trim on the M5 and I have to say whilst I am enjoying the fizzy excitement of the six I can't wait to get back to the sheer grunt and elastic performance that the M5 has been dishing out.

Is it, I should read things more carefully.

If that's the case then probably better sticking with the BMW warranty, as the Warranty Direct one is not that much cheaper for M cars.

In Jan 07 having let my BMW warranty lapse and checked out Warranty Direct who quoted £750 then discounted to £725. Didnt bother.
Over the weekend looking at the car club website I used the link to warranty direct again and filled in the form as a club member. Today I had a phone call from them and the price for a club member after some negotiation was £480 for 13 months - Vanos included - £25 excess per claim and thats for my M Roadster.
I am taking out their warranty now.
Benefit of club membership at last.

Hi Philrose - is that the BMW Car Club of Great Britain you are talking about - might investigate membership if so.
