After recently buying my 2003 M3 i have only used the satnav a couple of times... now i am used to it i would like to turn down the volume of her voice!! When i go into the settings and move the volume bar DOWN she says quieter, quieter quieter.. but the volume stays very loud!! Am i doing something wrong?? i cant seem to turn her down even when the volume bar is at minimum its mega loud! the dvd is a 2004 edition (if this makes any difference?) i am willing to try anything to shut her up a bit!! HELP.

Had that a few times over the years-the sound is generated by the Sat Nav unit(drive) in the boot and the control in settings adjust that volume in the unit.

In the case of not being able to turn down the volume via settings then it always ends up in a new nav unit(sorry). However you should be able to turn the volume down manually once direction has started.

I always like to carry out a battery reset first to make sure the units havent picked up a spike(disconnect the battery terminals and put them together(+ to -)

Also before writting off the nav, have it tested properly at a stealer or indie to be sure-the nav units are a pretty penny

Had this on my 530d and now on the M5. The 530d was fixed by replacing the BM54 radio module, still have to have the M5 looked at.

You can turn it off completly by pressing the cursor dial when guidence has started, then when the cursor is over the speaker symbol press and hold the dial for a second or two, then a line will cross through the speaker symbol and it will be turned off. You will need to do this each time it starts guiding you.

Nice car, good luck with it.

When she is talking, turn the volume knob down and this will work, make sure you do it whilst she is talking.

In my case, it was the boot-mounted amplifier that was faulty (apparently) - cost around 4-500 euro, and only if covered by the warranty will I have it fixed. Supposed to get the car back either this afternoon or tomorrow morning.

paoloh, Tried this at the weekend and it works.... but only for that 1 instruction?? The very next instruction will be loud volume again so i would have to turn the knob down each time she talks which is a pain in the rear!!

Yep, same as on mine. However, if you have another audio source selected at the same time (i.e. the orange led is on next to the left knob) the volume is probably quieter? Will let you know tomorrow, when I pick the beast up, what the damage was.
