Z3 M3 Roadster - Sports Exhaust
Discussion
Dear all
Well I am new to this forum as I have sold the TVR and decided to purchase some German engineering. I must confess I am missing the sound of the V8 but feel a lot more in control of the car rather it being in control of me so a good choice. I am however looking at replacing the rear silencers to get a bit better exhaust note form the Z3 and was wondering on some good exhausts. I would prefer if possible a reasonable priced set but I am aware that you get what you pay for. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Well I finally managed to get the car out of the garage and get the exhaust sorted. I have replaced the 2 rear boxes with a Powerflow system for a better note. Well the change in the exhaust note was amazing and really does make a difference. The distint M3 exhaust note is still there. There is no real booming at touring speeds with the hood down and all in all I would have to say a good buy. The only problem I can see is that fuel consumption will be reduced as the windows and roof will be down and dabbing the throttle to listen to the new sound track. When I can get my camera sorted I will try and post some pics.
Kind regards

Eisenmann seem to be the best around.
I'd go along with that. Had an MRoadster a few years back to which I fitted Eisenmann Race back boxes - I had the larger tip size, think they were 86mm each from memory and looked just great. Awesome sound - especially with the top down Totally transformed the driving experience for me. If you have a pre-facelift Z3M I would also very seriously consider the strut type products. (front, rear and even side bracing). They do to the handling what the Eisenmann does to the exhaust note!! Strong Strut in the US make some particularly fine examples, thats where I bought mine from. I would suggest a strong-strut and butt-strut (front and rear) and if you really want to go to town then get the body brace to.
Try Zroadster.net there are lots of very enthusiastic Z owners there who will be happy to advise.
Enjoy the car.
Bought my Eisenmann system from CA Autotech, if you mention you are a member of Zroadster.net or probably one of a number of other similar forums you should be offered a discount. From memory (and this was a few years ago) I was given 15% on the MRoadster system and 20% on my later M5 system as I was a 2nd time customer. Great bunch of guys there.

sounds good ,if you can remember how much did it cost ??? and did you fit it yourself ??
As I say, it was a few years ago. After discount it was around 800 pounds and that was with 83mm tips (not 86mm as I mentioned earlier). Here's a link to the price list:http://www.ca-automotive.co.uk/items/EisenmannPrei...
No, didn't fit it myself, much easier if you can pop it onto a ramp. I called into my local Kwik-Fit and the manager fitted it for free because it was a little different to the usual run of the mill Golf 1.4 exhausts he usually gets to see
Sorry chaps I have been away for a while. When I next get the car out I will take some pics of it. I went for the RBT ends and they look a little like the originals with a bit of a twist. I must confess I did look at the others and although there a couple of alternatives, I was swayed by the cost and the frienldy help. I had Olly at Powerflow Bury StEdmunds make and fit the system. A tue gent and they made and fitted them whilst I waited. With the roof down it is a completely different car.
I hope this helps and once I have the pics and can figure out how to post them on here then I will get them up.

On a slightly different note, took delivery of a couple of new back boxes for my M3 CSL yesterday. They are by GruppeM and are titanium. I couldn't believe how light they were - 12 pounds compared to approximately 50 pounds stock apparently!
There is indeed a lot to win in weight specially with the standard Z3 M boxes they weight like a ton I ordered new single pipes from scorpion(look like the Hartge and G-power exhausts) and they were almost half the weight and sounded much better then the snerp noise, also free popsBut those titanium ones sounds even better in weight...lovely but expensive?? what do they cost together?
Unfortunately GruppeM only produce an exhaust for the e46 M3/CSL, it happens to be titanium. Here's the link to GruppeM:

There are a number of other companies that make titanium systems, not sure in what fitments though.

oef...that's still a lot indeed 367.500 yen that's about 2300,-euro? and then shipment, but hey, a standard exhaust which is very heavy, also cost about 1.300,-euro.http://www.gruppem.co.jp/en/home.html

Wonder if there's different in sound also, between stainless and Titanium I think there is a bit...also welding titanium...also different then welding stainless? I guess so?
thx
Had a bit of a deal on mine....worked out at 1750 USD plus (from memory) 130 USD for shipping. Managed to get the supplier to declare a much lower value so have hopefully avoided import duty
The GruppeM is quite loud plus there is a load of induction noise with the CSL - even the standard exhaust sounds fantastic.
If your looking for sound clips then try a search on 'you tube'.

Are you ready for this? They were a whopping £360 inc fitted and it took him 3 hours to do. I will get some pics up tomorrow night if I can get the car out of the garage as the drive is currently being repaired so the car is stuck in the garage at the moment.
If you can let me know how to post pics then that will help.
Thanks
