You can get a juicy spec Z4M coupe less than a year old from a BMW main dealer for £33k. So Johnny Punter selling to the dealer would have got £30k tops for the car he paid £45k for last year.

That's 33% depreciation in less than a year.

What's gone wrong?

Ah ha...another depreciation debate with me old mate Deutscher!! :-)

It is scarey isn't it...I was looking in the latest TG mag last night....in the bit where that bloke Frank recommends his bargain deal. This month it was the Z4M Coupe. www.broadspeed.com can supply a new one for a smidge under £36K...but that is of course without any options. Once you add the options that I've got on mine, the price goes up to just under £39000. My new Z4MC was reduced to just over £40K at a main dealer, and the finance included another £1500 deposit contribution so I feel ok about it as I've got roughly the same deal.

But that'll be the reason the residuals are taking a hammering if you can (theoretically) buy a new one for £36K. I pity anyone that paid full whack last year and needs to get out of it at the moment. They're in for a spanking :-(

Hope the rumours are true about BMW stopping production on the Coupes at the end of the year! I don't want them becoming common!! Never used to see any on the road...this week I've seen 2 3.0 Coupes and a Z4MC in Black. That was in Stockbridge, Edinburgh....anyone on here?

Hmmm...lovely isn't it. Go for it...I must say, I'm delighted with mine. I was going to do the sensible thing and buy a 9 month old one...but love having new cars so decided to bite the bullet in the end.

This is exactly why buying brand new is only for the stupid or those that can afford not to care, I never buy new, only demo or 6 month old low mileage and I still take a spanking but at least this way I know it's coming!

Buying new isn't a bad idea if the supply of cars is limited, as it was with the <Audi TT/Merc CLK Mk1/Porsche Gayman>, as you pretty much dodge the first 18 months depreciation as everyone is clammering for used examples to dodge the waiting list.

Unfortunately with the Z4M Coupe there seems to have been no problem filling orders so its foregone the "Demand>Supply" stage.

The S54 cannot meet emission regulations for 2008, thus the Z4M will not be produced as of the end of this model year. Whether BMW fecks us by introducing a V8 powered Z4M is another matter. So far there has been staunch denials that this would ever happen given the limited size of the engine bay. And before anyone points out the empty space on either side of the S54 - that is crumple zones and has to remain that way according to legislation.

P.S. My Z4M Coupe was the cheapest and lowest mileage car in the whole of Europe when I bought it... Am I delighted - you bet... Have I seen another one yet? Not a chance... Does everyone stare at it? You bet! Do I get comments on how lovely it looks - oh, yes... Does it drive well - short of a CSL, I think this is the closest you will ever get to being in a E30 M3 in a modern car...

Sounds like a happy guy. He must be economically viable... (Sorry, slipped into Falling Down mode there).

No, the car is Imola Red with black leather...

Yes, I will take a hit on the depreciation over the next 4 yrs, but I fell in love with the car when I saw the prototype, and also someone else (BMW in that instance) took the initial £13k hit, which made me a lot more disposed to buy it...

TBH folks, I'm in the process of ditching my Cerbera and procuring a new Z4MC via Broadspeed, unless my local dealer can come up with a similar deal.

£36,715 for the spec I want, as against >£43k list price.

Gosh that is a fantastic deal. Makes a yr old eg. at £30k look pricey.

Yes, local dealer has a 56-reg in (with Satnav admittedly) at £37k...

Hey Carl - what spec are you getting for £36,715? Sounds like a great deal!

I am getting really tempted by one of these as I can get more finance from a dealer than I could get looking privately for another car I wanted to get. The only thing causing me to pause is the fact I already have two cars over 185 g/km thus looking at over £700 car tax a year with a z4mc. Don't suppose its possible to get a coupe registered before 23 March 2006?

This makes me want to cry!
Am i the only one stupid enought o have paid near list price when these first started to appear.

Back then I had to wait months for the bloody thing to turn up and now you can get them for such a discount - I wouldnt mind, but i'll never convince the Mrs to spend so much on a car again!

Well I just out of interest specced a new Z4M Coupe on Broadspeed, identical to mine and it came out at £39680 and I dont have all the options.

What spec did you order for that? Must be fairly light??
