E92 M3 official launch date + pricing
Discussion
Hot off the press! BMW UK has confirmed the launch date of the M3 as 8 Sep... the date that the first customer cars (including mine ) will be collected.
The base car is a shade over £50k (and well under £51k) but is fairly well loaded, including leather (as with the E46) and sat nav (an expensive extra on the E46).
As expected, it's manual only until around March (when the folding hard-top is also likely to arrive).
More information to follow when available...

Price + selected options:
- £50,625 UK OTR price
- £1,265 19" alloys
- £260 front seat heating
- £285 PDC front and rear
- £535 Bluetooth
- £110 Armrest
- £390 Hi-fi loudspeaker system
= £53,470 + dealer fit tracker for a sensibly specced car with solid residuals?
As previously mentioned leather, nav and metallic are included in the OTR price.
The options above are not intended to provoke reaction ("listen to the engine not the hifi", "armrests are for old men", "PDC is for people who can't drive" etc.).
I've got all the dealer info in front of me if anyone has any questions!

And one further thought - assuming that the cab comes in £4.5k heavier than the coupe (as per the 335i M) and the DST 'box weighs in at around £2k then that will take the price well beyond £60k... edging dangerously close to 997 Carrera territory (though I appreciate that that is not a like for like comparison).
I also notice that the weighty folding hard top adds 0.3 secs onto the dash to 62.5 mph for the 335i M cab so expect the same for the M3... though perhaps the DST 'box will help to recover some of that ground.
Now we just need some journos to jump into a press car prior to us 'going firm' on the ordering system...

We've known about the launch date for a week or so now, but some of the final prices for options have not previously been confirmed (although we knew their Euro prices).
What colour are you thinking of? I put in my order last weekend for it in Jerez Black with Fox Red leather but since seeing a picture of Fox Red I have changed my mind. I am now more likely to go for Interlagos Blue/Black as I already have in my Z4MC. I was swayed by this slightly enhanced photoshop of the press photos..

Apologies for announcing old news! I have the full list of options and prices (£ if anyone needs any info.
I am undecided on colour - a friend of mine has just specced his in Alpine White + black leather... very courageous and I think it will look uber cool (especially with the black carbon fibre roof). I am not sure if I quite have the balls for it.
I am tempted to go for (boring) black/black, which will look great. Alternatively dark grey (is that Sparkling Graphite?) / fox red but I fear that they haven't got quite the right dark grey. My AMV8 was in Meteorite Silver (dark grey) with dark red interior and looked AWESOME.
I haven't seen the colour charts (as you can tell) and like the idea of an 'M' only colour, which are Alpine White, Jet Black, Sparkling Graphite and Space Grey (not sure on diff between the last two).

Have you been over at bmw.com? There is a basic configurator where you can play around with colours and wheel styles. Just select the M3 (2007) from the models list, let the advert play and then you are through to the configurator. I also have a photo of Fox Red if you need it.

Are the 19" wheels a must-have for residuals? I seem to remember reading a few reviews of the E46 M3 that didn't rate the larger wheels, as they compromised handling/ride..
Yes, the 19" wheels are pretty essential really. I never found the difference between 18" and 19" was that noticeable in terms of ride quality, in some ways I felt the steering was less precise on the 18" ers, but generally I wouldn't worry about the differences.
My dealer reckons that the press will get into cars before I 'go firm', but different dealers are saying different things. A friend of mine has been told that he has to confirm in the next couple of weeks (and he is number 8 on his dealer's list, whereas I am number 1 on mine). I suspect that dealers are increasing the pressure to weed out timewasters and speculators - I have known mine for years and bought a few cars off him so he is more relaxed (I haven't even had to put down a deposit on my M3 yet!).
Usually BMW require 8-12 weeks prior to delivery to confirm the spec, however my experience with new models is that they require an additional 4 weeks (same with other manufacturers)... which working back from 8 Sep makes 8 June. I'll keep you posted...

Has your dealer said when you'll need to commit to a final spec by? Also, when will reviews of the press cars start to appear?
My dealer is sorting out the first few slots this week. Bear in mind that only 300 cars are being shipped this calendar year so most dealers will get between 1 and 2 cars including their demo.
Press reviews will be a while yet, we haven't heard any news from BMW on the press launch schedule but we should be reviewing it within the next 6-8 weeks.

Still got the dillemma as to whether you get the manual, or wait for the DCT. Or rather... how much money will you lose on a manual if you keep it until delivery of a DCT car?
My personal view is that the only loss between buying a car at launch and then another when DCT/DST (?) launches will be the dealer margin... ie. dealers will be selling used ones for list in March. They will also be very quick and easy to sell so the dealer margin will be relatively low on well specced cars... £3k?

Ordered mine and it will be white. By far and away the best colour for the car...
