Hi Guys and Gals,

I'm in the process of looking for a used M3 Convertible, got £28k to spend and want the SMG.

I've taken a 54plate, 49k, grey with pro sat nav and Hard top for a test drive at my local BMW dealer.

There asking £28,450 for it. I've looked on the BMW approved used website and seen several for about the same money (without hard tops)

What are the second hand hardtops worth?

Am I right in thinking the £28,450 is a bit steep considering I can get cars with 10-20k less miles for abut the same money?

Thanks

First place i'd look for an M3 is here - www.imc-online.co.uk/home.html

They currently have 2 SMG convertible's, both within budget and 1 with a hardtop. Both have less mileage than the one in your original post, but both are 04 plates.

I think you can get better ones than the one from your dealer, but you may have to travel around, which i always think is worth it.

I'm not particularly fussed on the blue or yellow above, but it maybe an idea to email/ring them and see if they can locate one for you.

The hard tops go for at least £800.00 either on e bay or if someone selling prive has one they will ask that sort of money EXTRA for it!!

I would avoid that 49k car to be honest- as the 12 month warranty will undoubtedly expire when the car is very near 60k miles- and then you're staring down the barrel of another 800 to extend the warranty once the car has more than 60k on it. From memory I think it costs 1050 or something if the car has less than 60 and 1800 if more than 60k.

A word of caution - I would beware buying a second hand hard top off as there are alot of nicked ones out there. Search on BM3W for info.

I also think that 28k is way too steep for a car with 49k on it. I paid less than that for similar car with only 16k on it and full spec at the end of last summer from a dealer down south where stock tends to be pricier.

Do a national search and then get your dealer to buy in or buy direct from a non local dealer.
