I have waited weeks for my broker to get me a renewal quote for our E46 M3 Cab as it has been modified. The premium for an unmodified car was circa £950 which was bad enough, but they have come back with £1600 plus with the mods yikes (Miltek cat back, front and rear AP's and KW 20mm lower suspension) can anyone recommend a more sensibly priced option with a reputable broker/insurer? By the way wife and I are late 30's, the car is garaged with tracker and neither of us have any convictions.

Barry Grainger Insurance is worth contacting, Firebond & Peart are also worth a closer look too!

Ignoring the awful television adverts, I chose to go with confused.com as a few people had recommended them. Insurance for me (22 yrs old) on my M Roadster was only £1000 - the website found Admiral to be the cheapest. Like yours, it's also kept in a garage which seems to help a lot...!

Hey guys - if your car is less than 12 months old you have to watch Admiral and all the others under their group (elephant plus some others)...they don't replace with a new car in the first 12 months. And I found that they are cheaper than everyone else, but then when you tell them about options (factory fit or otherwise) the premium goeas right up. And if you don't tell them about the options, they won't be covered or taken into account ona pay out. Be careful!

For me, Direct Line is always cheaper than everyone else. Everytime without fail. Not sure what they're like with mod'd cars though.

Good luck,

J.

Agree with Philrose.
I use BMW insurance and pay about £780 for my M3 Coupe.
Admiral was well over £1000 for me.

I can't believe how hard this car has been to insure at a reasonable cost with the modifications, it has cost over £1400 with a £500 excess with Norwich Union (a fair bit more than the TVR Griff and 330 Clubsport insurance premiums combined it replaced!)

I did get a few cheaper quotes but on further investigation the insurers involved might be interesting to deal with in the event of a claim...

Thats about what i paid on the E36 EVO, was the same age, only 2 years NCB though, so with the increase on insurance premiums (it was 5 years ago) thast not actually a bad quote

Was quite insane though hehe

This has confirmed my suspicion that insurance companies just make up their quotes depending on what mood they're in. I don't have a NCB (as was always a named driver on my parents car) and yet it seems my quote was quite cheap...

I still think confused website saves a lot of time, but possibly sensible to avoid Admiral etc. if you have lots of modifications or a very new car
