I'm in the market for an M5. Unsure what to go for. A lot of the early cars appear to have had the engines replaced, but the later ones with lower mileage do not. I live in cetral london so will likely get a few parking knocks. I will also only be putting about 4000 miles a year on it, tops. Should I pay the premium and go for a mint low mileage, with widescreen tv/satnav etc, accepting it will get a few knocks or go for one of the older cheaper models without the newer toys, steering wheel etc and save myself a few grand, and still have the driving pleasure. interested to hear readers experience I currently drive a 1998 528I, so inside not much difference?
www.m5board.com go to the E39 forum and read up a little. I personally would avoid too many electronics, if they fail, and they do, its very expensive. Go for history, the right colour, and drive a few before decising. Each one is a little diffent. Also consider a brake upgrade if you are going to 'drive' the car. Standard brakes are not the best.
