M3 Bluetooth pairing and sat nav
Discussion
Hi All,
I picked up my 05 M3 today, lovely car and drives very well; unfortunately I am having two issues (hopefully not major problems) with it, one being that I can't find anyway to pair my phone to the car.. telephone is an option on the screen and the buttons are on the car, but there is just a message to 'Activate Phone' on the screen, but my phone can't locate the bluetooth device after I switch the car on.
The other problem being the sat nav thinks I'm in brighton, when actually I'm 140 miles away - the Ariel is missing from the back of the car (the screw in one for the convertible) which is £20 from what I understand; the radio works fine though it's just the sat nav and TV signal appear to be poor.
If anyone could point me in the right direction I'd really appreciate it, getting slightly nervous about those two problems!
Thanks
John

To pair your phone;
In the arm rest there is a talk button(centre console)
Press and hold this button, with the button held turn the ignition to p1 or p2-dont start engine though.
After 3 seconds release the talk button-you should then have 3 led's flashing on the right hand side of the OBD.(red, amber green at the same time)also bluetooth pairing will appear in the display.
Now you need to locate the bluetooth function in your phone and search for devices, when your phone has found the car you will have something like bmw 13236 on your phone, select it and your phone will ask you for a pass key. This will be on a card in your hand book pack-the card is the same size as the booklets and on its own.It has a 4 digit code which you enter into your phone.
Once you have entered it it will say pairing succeded,or unsuccessful or words to that effect-they all mean it has worked. You will also get an audible bleep through the speakers.
Turn the ignition off and back on...thats it.
The Sat nav sounds like the HIP module is confused or the GPS aerial is weak-can only see 2 satelites.there is always 8 in the open sky at any one time-for GPS to locate the vehicle a minimum of 3 need to download the almenac to pin point.
To try and snap it out of confusion I recommend the battery is dissconected at both terminals and then shorting the possitive and neagative conectors together(this wont harm as you have taken the battery out of the equation)this will remove any voltage spikes in the systems.
Reconnect the terminals, make sure you put the car in a postion where it is an open sky(no trees, tall buildings etc)and start the engine.Go to nav display (map)and leave it for 10-15 mins.It should hopefully work..If not then its off to the stealer for some diagnostic testing of the aerial + almenac.
NOTE;when shorting the terminal leads together make sure you dont have a charger connected(battery, phone, road angel)and also if you have a phone cradle, take your phone out.

Thanks for the reply, that's really helpful. I think half my problem is that the guy hasn't given me the original handbook for the phone prep which I am assuming contains my pass code - is there any way for me to obtain this?
Thanks
Thanks
You need to pop into you local dealer, they will plug it in and retrieve the code from the control unit.
Or you can get the number from the side of the unit-it is hidden behind the n/s boot trim
Thanks mate; I took it in yesterday before reading your reply. Dealer charged me £30 to reset it, the sat nav unit needs replacing behind the bumper which is being done under warranty next week.
I bought the car on the Thursday 05 M3 Cab, already cost me nearly £500. Not pleased!
Thanks for your help though, instruction for the bluetooth pairing were spot on.
