Chaps - just about to take the plunge and buy a new Z4M Coupe. Just wondering, but did any of you guys that have bought them pay full RRP? Or did you get them discounted?

The reason I ask is that I'm trying to find out whether I'm getting a good deal on my new car. Basically, I've had three cars offered to me...each one has got about £4000 of options. So around £45K retail price. Each one is brand new with delivery mileage and unregistered so will be an 07 plate. However, each of the dealers is offering me 10% discount plus a £1500 contribution to the deposit if using BMW finance. The finance contribution is on the basis that I do the deal before the end of March.

Is this a good deal andequivalent to what you other guys got when you bought yours? Obviously the down side is that none of the cars are my ideal spec because I'm not ordering it from the factory....but having said that they are all well specced with Pro Sat Nav, Hi Fi etc and of course I get to pick it up within 2 weeks.

It also worries me that a car like this should be discounted at all...I mean I always thought that BMW, like Porsche, never discount on new cars. Clearly not the case. It's not like they've been around very long...a year or so since they were first released??

What do you all think?

Cheers,

J.

Well I was told the maximum discount for this year was 8%. I was also told in principle there should be no discount on a Z4 Coupe.

So if you can get 10% it's a good deal.

I've spent over £120K since August last year with my particular dealer group and I'm not getting 10% on the Z4 Coupe.

Hello again Catherine!

Well I kind of gathered that it's worth it to them to meet their end of March targets...but are they selling well? I'm a bit worried...most of the time with cars like that, I'd expect no discount and a long wait. Why is it different? As I said in an earlier post, I was going to find a used one...but the finance deal is so much better on the new one and with the discount it makes alot more sense than it would have done otherwise.

Cheers,
J.

Was that a highly specced car?

Good discount IMO. I managed to get 8 percent like Catherine but no more.

As for the finance, I wouldnt use BMW, far better options out there even with the £1500 they say will go towards it.

Hi Jay - this discount is kind of good....but it worries me re residuals etc. It's on a guaranteed future value arrangement, so if it does plummet in the 3 years I own it then I'm protected from being in negative equity. However, I'd still like to see a few grand back at the end of it...I guess that's a bit of a pipe dream these days.

Cheers,
J.

Incidentally Jay, who would you suggest from the finance perspective?

Hi guys - just phoned Bateman. He said it was a roadster, it didn't have that much discount and they've sold it in any case.

Absolutely re the finance. Use an asset finance deal, not a typical 'car finance'. PM if you want some ideas, I know a good guy who does good asset deals on performance cars - nothing in it for me by the way; he just helped me out before I started buying cars for cash!

I understand that M Roadsters on 06 plates for example can be picked up extremely cheaply.

Yes indeed - I've seen a couple of Z4M roadsters on BMW.co.uk advertised for under £32000....pity the poor sod who paid list for it nine months before!

JAY - Sorry, I didn't realise I didn't accept messages! Now fixed! I'd be very grateful if you could try again.

Cheers,
J.

Hey Alexe - I know how you feel....I bought a 986 Boxster S about 8 months before the 987 arrived....paid full wack (there's no other way with Porsche) and lost a shed load over the 2.5 years I owned it. Cracking car though, so I hope you enjoy it as much as I did my Boxster. And the Z4 Coupe's are still so rare which is nice...Boxsters are common as muck, especially where I live!

How about this for a bad purchase.

Ex demo Boxster 2.7 (987 model)

New list £44k, for sale with 1,500 miles at £41,995

Traded back into same dealer group for £33k at 7 months old and 6k miles. Dealer group wanted to give £31k.

I'm sure it was a coupe in imola red!

It was in the shopping centre with a sticker in the window saying save 6400, delivery miles only.

I wouldn't of looked at it if was a roadster.

I think it's a gimmick to get people to enquire maybe?

They had a 330i with leather also in Le mans blue delivery miles and 5400 off and that's outside the stealerships doors.

I'm not happy with batemans, that's why i drove 600 miles for mine as it was 3500 cheaper than their car.

Also slightly worrying why BMW has to offer such big discounts? they can't be shifting them?

Ouch! Nasty...

My experience has certainly convinced me never to buy a new Porsche again. I swore that I wouldn't buy a new car of any description again..but have just broken it this morning by putting the deposit down on the Z4M that we've been discussing! I don't know what it is about cars that makes me lose all self restraint!! ;-)
