Hi

I'm tempted to drop higher flow air filters in to my E39 M5 but have one minor concern -

will the oil present in K&N/Pipercross type panels eventually contaminate and clog the sensor on the MAFS?confused

Has anyone done any mileage on aftermarket filters on an E39 M5 that can vouch for the continued condition of their MAFS?? (mine were replaced about 5k ago)

Cheers

Its always a concern with oiled filters, you should be able to get filters which are not oiled, these imho are a better choice, especially given the chocolate MAF BMW choose to fit to thier cars

Pipercross come with oil for application before installation - but the oil is obviously a key in air particle removal!

I used to have the Active Autowerk CAI fitted to my previos e39 M5 which includes K&N Panel Filters, never had any problems.

Before fitting the pre-oiled Filters I would advise you wrap and lay them in newspaper/blotting paper overnight to take away any excess oil which may be apparent, other than that I would certainly recommend them.

Thanks C - you are helpful as ever!! (bm5w )

I've ordered 'dry' pipercross and will give them just a light 'dusting' of oil

Last I saw was a message saying it was going to be off-line but that this would hopefully only be temporary and that a link page would be set up to direct people to a new address at some point?

Just a relocation of the Server, there will also be a hic-up towards the end of the month, other than this all seems fine.

Let us know your findings on the Air-Filter swap.
