Why so hard to find a decent car??
Discussion
Im looking for a Black, Estoril Blue or Silver/grey E46 M3 Cab or coupe with SMG, black leather, satnav and as many other options as poss. There are none around!!!! Ive advertised in the wanteds for 2 months and looked on here every day for the last month.
Ive got 4 major requirements and thats it. Body colour, SMG, Nav and Black leather.
Im not really bothered about the age. Will take from 02 - 05.
I've got the cash burning a hole in my pocket but no M3's to buy. I thought i would have the pick of the litter with the prices as they are but no joy.
Whats going on?????

Yep came to the same conclusion, was initially looking for an 04 car in Steel Grey or Black with Red leather, couldn't find any sensible priced private cars especially when you chuck in the cost of warranty renewal, new tyres, wheel refurb and peace of mind I have just put a deposit down on a black with black cab at a main dealer, got a half decent p/ex price on my wife's 330 clubsport too
Have tried the BMW Dealers, have had 1 on the case for 2 months and he has come up with 3 cars over my 30k limit and an Oxford Green car. Problem is i cant find the total spec. They usually have Satnav missing or red leather. I havent had a look on bm3w yet. maybe ill have some luck there.
I don't think you're trying hard enough! The BMW AUC website is your friend and probably the best one in the industry. Here's 4 coupes that fit the bill perfectly. Asking a dealer to find you a car is like asking Mcdonalds for a silver service meal.

To be honest with you, i dont really want to pay Main dealer prices. Ever since i was accused of stealing my own car from the main dealer when it got stolen when in for a service, i've had a problem with lining their pockets.
They even lost a sale when they took 7 months to arrange a test drive in an E46 M3 when they 1st came out.
Cooper Banstead rang me 3 weeks ago with the Silver grey model at £29,850 and said there was no flexibility in the price at all. Im not paying 30k for an 04 coupe from a dealer when i can get one for 26-27k from an indie.
IMO, main dealers add no extra value and are too snooty for my liking. I have never had a good experience with a BMW main dealer. Their customer service is diabolical.
I have had M3's for the last 12 yrs and only take my cars in for servicing to adhere to the warranty specifications and keep up the FSH for resale. If i didnt have to do that, they wouldnt see a penny from me.

Don't think you are factoring in the better prep work that can be arranged on a main dealer purchase over an independent. There is usually room to manoeuvre on price with a main dealer despite what they may say, and you should also factor in the 'no-quibble' full 1 year warranty that you get on an AUC from a dealer from date of purchase. Most cars at independents either only have a portion of the original 3 year warranty or an aftermarket warranty which is usually the cheapest that they could get and therefore doesn't give the best peace of mind for if you need to claim. There is no excess payable on warranty claims under the AUC warranty either.
I went to the dealer to see what he could offer to maybe redeem his dealership, he had nothing in his locker.
I bought a porker last june (04 C4S cab) but i wrote it off in Nov. (Standing water). Ive got the insurance money through now so im going for an M3 again and will put the rest down on an investment. I miss the boot space and dont worry so much about depreciation, vandalism and running costs on the M3's.

When i was looking about for my m3 there was one common thing i noticed with the indy dealers. that was the running in service was not done on time, every time i asked the question about the service i got a similar reply about it not being that important. But they would say that.
And thats why they are not for sale at a main dealer, as bmw will not honour future warranty claims for the engine etc & BMW cannot resale them as auc.
Lots of info on this at BM3W.com
