Does anybody know how much it would cost to rebuild an M3 EVO engine? i.e, prices of parts

I've seen a couple advertised, done under warrenty @ 7 - 9K with BMW, thats probable not what you wanted to know..!! I've just written off my S reg M3 Evo convertable, all body work damage, the engine only had 62K with full Snows service history. I'm not sure whats happening to the car it's in the Schothall BMW body shop in Winchester (Hampshire) waiting to be taken away by the insurance compnay for scrapping!!!

The good news was the insurance company paid up & I've bought a V reg M3 evo convertable to replace it with.. NICE

Whats up with your motor?

I got qoted £5,500 ish to rebuild the bottom end on an Evo, £9,000ish for a brand new engine and ended up paing £2,200 for a second hand one.

just buy a low mileage one from someone like Douglas Valley with a guarantee, a rebuild will cost 3 x as much why bother?

Its unlikely that a rebuild will require every part to be replaced, eg. you may just need a reground crank and a couple of big ends

The problem with second hand engines is their origin and their history.

Any reason why you are asking - engine let go and if so in what way?
