Having almost decided that i'm going to get a Black M6, to replace my current E46 M3 when they get to around £55k, i saw the magazine Car today, with pictures of the new M3. I have loved my M3, in fact its probably been the best car i have owned for all round ability so the prospect of having a new M3 was quite appealing, so bought the mag.

However looking at the pics of the New M3, it looks pretty dull. Doesn't look much different to a standard 3 series. The article says they have on purpose tried to make it more understated than the E46. Does anyone else think that it just doesn't look like an M3 should?

(good mag for M3 lovers, the have the new M3 article, M3 family tree and E30vsE36vsE46).

So a new M3 Convertable with some stuff on would be around £55k and soon a second hand M6, with about 15k miles will be around £55k.

What would you go for, M6 for me all the way.

Well i think they are and will be very different beasts, I took an M6 from Bristol to Swindon today and averaged a little over 1*0mph in 70mph winds. What fun and so effortless.

P.S that is higher in the 1**'s than you think!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i love the speed!!!!!!

You do get a hell of a lot of car for the money. I saw a black M6 with 8600 miles on the clock with a good spec up for £57k the other day, so that must have lost about £30k. Was at a BMW dealer the other day looking at an M6. Although the one they had was £67k, the put it side by side with a £55k M5 and if you don't need the extra 2 'real' seats, there really is only one choice.

I love the M6 interior and the M5 interior just doesn't do anything for me.

Still feel really let down by the looks of the new M3. No doubt it will be great to drive, but....

Buy an M6 now and enjoy it. If you buy sensibly you shouldn't lose too much and you will thoroughly enjoy it!

When BMW finally release the M3 and we realise that it does look fantastic after all and blows the RS4 into the weeds, we'll can all buy one!

errr, i doubt it very much whether a new M3 will actually blow an RS4 'into the weeds' as you say rolleyes but i concur about buying an M6, fantastic car.

I would be very surprised if BMW release something that is seen as inferior to the RS4, from a drivers point of view. Theres a first time for everything though .

I guess it comes down to your definition of 'blown into the weeds'. Mine would be a few seconds quicker around the Nordschleife and cleaning up on most magazine tests as a start.

I agree I doubt it will be inferior.

Interesting comment about the M6 because I have started looking at them on BMW AUC.

The E46 M3 is I believe a better drivers car than the current RS4, but the RS4 really is a superb car with traction that is nothing short of miraculous, very different car but certainly not inferior apart from maybe in the fun stakes, horses for courses etc. My only hope with the new M3 is that it is not any heavier than the current one, it really should be around 1450kgs to really make it a weapon. M6 is a beautfiul cruiser and if that's your bag then there's nothing better IM, not at 55-60K anyway

Does anyone know when the new M3 is going to be available. I left a deposit with my dealer but haven't seen anything in the press or heard from them since. I thought that they were going to be delivering the first ones at the end of the year.

Looking at the pics from the exterior I quite like the M3 but I really need to see it in the flesh to see what its really like but at the moment the M6 is ahead.

I was told summer. My dealer said they only had 4 orders at the moment. Seems strange

The 335i imo is better than the RS4 already, the M3 will be well ahead.
A tuned 335i is probably good enough tbh.

Don't want to start a , but i recently blew an RS4 in to the weeds the other day (in the 335d and he was going for it)

TBH i was a little disappointed in getting the M3 back

Just to continue the theme, a neighbour of mine has an RS4 and we went head to head a couple of weeks ago on a run out for lunch. It was no competition - he led on the way there and couldn't get me off his tail; and on the way back he struggled to keep me in sight, let alone stay on my exhaust! And we're both regulars on track days so nothing in it as far as driving skill.

Now, if it had been wet me thinks it would have been a far different conclusion!

v interesting John, but have you tried the 335i or 335d? (it'll make my old griff 500 seem slow)
