I know this Topic has been Covered before just wondering was there any NEW information are Advice????

Has anyone on the site any knowledge of SMG I boxes?? It is just that I have a 1998 M3 Evo with a SMG I box and I find it great!! It is just a lot of people I have been talking to wreck in that It cause’s a lot of money to Replace a Clutch if it go’s as Hydraulic pipes have to be drained and re-pressurised running into big money any light on this Subject?????

Also I’ve heard that a SMG I box is more are less a normal 6 speed Manuel box with hydraulic gear change, instead of using your foot clutch, pipes pressurise the car into gear. Wood there be much to converting car into a standard 6 speed manual instead of SMG I ????????

I have heard rumours it is not a big task, I have therefore went to BMW and got Schematic Drawing of both SMG I & standard 6speed manual boxes the two pictures look the exact same other than the Hydraulic Unit on SMG I box.

Any Help welcome and appreciated

Thank you in advance

yes i have and exactly the same car as you sir. I LOVE IT !!

Clutch replacement is no more expensive than a normal ///M car. I know this as i've fairly recently had mine done. Never herd that about having to de-pressurise the system though.
The SMG unit it's self, as you know, is totally seperiate from the gearbox and if this `lets go` your looking at nearly £2k + VAT yikes. The gearbox incidently is identical to a `regular` M3 gearbox, the only thing it's missing is the centeralising spring that returns the gearstick to netural.

As for the convertion, www.fabdirect.com do a `kit` for self instalation....ie getting your local indipendents to fit it for you. Speak to them, you'll find them very helpful.

It's not on the web page mate, you have to call them and `the kit` is basicly all the stuff you need to do the convertion.

Yes i did thanks AND i'm only eleven....well in the mind anyway !.....definatly not in the body.

The trouble is i'm writing these replys from my work PC between job call outs so sometimes i'm a little rushed....thats what working for the media does for you. At least i've done my best to answer Super2nd's post and he seams to understand what i'm saying anyway.

Not that i need to justify myself but thought i will anyway
