There's one on E-bay for £62.5k (I think UK list price ex extras) with no bites.

Anyone any experience of transaction prices?

Thanks

Well, there are no discounts at dealers and won't be for quite a while.

But if the e39 M5 was anything to go by, we will be seeing sub-£25k ones within three years!

Were there sub-£25k E39s in 2002? I don't think there were.

They are still fetching over list, albeit not stoopid amounts like they where just after launch.

£62K for a standard car is a good price.

the standard spec on the M5 is very very good

agreed, but it's still impossible to resist dipping into the extras. The easily resistible one os the $5k extra leather - looks lovely, but money down the drain

Exactly they were rock solid for a long long time , the new mod seems even more of a rarity

Agreed about logic 7 and fool leather. I'd make sure the car has professional satnav as well. The 4MA seats are a bit of a waste but great fun once in a while.

If you want one specced just the way you like (colours, options etc.) expect to wait a while/pay full whack. If you don't mind a car off the shelf then there are plenty available to drive away today.

The thing that surprises me is the full leather is even optional on the £82k M6 - I mean come on...

Not convinced that many people are paying over list.

I had a slot to spec mine this week. For a number of reasons I didn't want it yet.

The dealer is still having trouble getting shot of it. At list.

It#s more of a surprise that BMW are trying to charge c£80K for the car in the first place.

You would have to be certifiable to buy this car new.

Slight correction there - the grade of leather is the same (Nappa). You do get map pockets, glove box lid, dash etc. covered when you opt for fool leather (as well as the alcantara headlining).

No it won't, baz. It took the E39 longer than that to go down below £30k and this is a more expensive, better car. I can understand why you'd like it to, but if it di, BMW Finance would lose a fortune, given the residual values they are guranteeing (£40k+).

Sounds about right to me if bought outside the BMW dealer network. I payed £28k for my e39. M5 in '04, for a low mileage '01 car. I could have paid as little as £22k for higher milage, which equates to approx 60% depreciation. I think the new M5 may suffer even more due to the revisions to the M car warranty policy and the Bangle design.

whoami if your dealer is struggling to get rid of your car please give them my number - 07765200300 and I would be more than happy to take the car of their hands.

As for residuals currently the M5 is a much better buy than the M6, I have been offered 3000 mile M6's for M5 money!!! (20k drop in 3 months!!!!!) M5's are holding up very very well for a number of reasons but mainly because its the right money and is a much better car. As for predicted values in 3 years most funders are offering 50%/3 Year balloons on M5's but figures vary wildly on M6's, I have seen 60% balloons and 30% balloons - £40k M6 in 18 months will be a good buy though!!!!!!!!!

Yes it will baz

Supply and demand. I bought a 'not quite' four year old E39 M5 for 22K. No matter how much the dealers would like to persuade new owners that there investment is safe, and no matter how much they guarantee prices, at the end of the day they aren't in control of the price.

Its still a bloody good car, but what BMW can't control is that we live in a society of idiots that worship at the altar of new.

People buying E39 M5s in the last couple of years for under £30k proves nothing. The E39 M5 came out in 1999! You could not get one for under £30k in 2002. Get real!
