Hi People, was looking into a 20 plate X3M as we had our X3M40i taken from our drive, they broke in through back window walked through our house and stole the keys plus van key had to move our daughter x3 from in front of the drive then nicked our lovely Car, we are now in a position to maybe buy the X3M what's people's thoughts is it worth doing or is comfort compromising? We found after 4hours driving the X3 M40i not the most comfortable but absolutely love the drive.

Sorry to hear you had your 40i stolen. I think secretly all 40i owners would like the X3MC. Seat wise I have the optional M seats in my 40i which are the standard seats in the comp and after a few hours driving they can cause a few issues with my bum and lower back but that’s a very individual issue as everyone is different. What I’ve read is that the earlier comps had very stiff suspension but this was softened with LCI’s.

Have you considered getting a Ghost immobiliser? Doesn’t matter if thieves do get the keys to the car, they still wouldn’t be able to start it.

Thank you for reply, the ghost was on my radar after it's happened but just been told by the insurance company that they can by pass it as well, but my thoughts are the more time it takes the less chance it will go.
As regard seats the 40 for us was perfect for nearly everything but the extra hp is a want☺️😊😊

I think your insurance company doesn’t know what they’re talking about. I’m pretty sure the Ghost can’t be bypassed.

I think it's more they would lift it then rip it apart but as you say I also have herd good feedback about it.

My brother in law has an X3MC as his daily driver, after having an F83 M4C, initially he felt the ride was too harsh for an SUV but was too high for an M car, but after a few months he adapted and loves it now. It's practical but has the grunt to make it fun. The hard suspension means it hangs onto the road when by rights it really shouldn't.

Very sorry to hear about the M40i Burnie - for me, having someone break into the house for keys would actually be more than concerning than losing the car...
I’ve owned both, traded in my 2019 M40i for a 2021 (pre LCI) X3M Competition a couple of years ago.
I don’t find the ride much different to the M40i in comfort setting to be honest, a little firmer & more bouncy perhaps but really not much in it.
When I push on the X3M is clearly quicker, but the low down torque, more useful for everyday driving, seemed better in the M40i.
The M40i made a meaningful rumble, but the X3M makes a fantastic noise.
The biggest difference is the running costs - I definitely notice that I’m filling up the X3M more frequently, the insurance cost is double & required me to fit a Thatcham S5 tracker, & I’m generally more wary of what might happen to it, bought a Stoplock Pro Elite which I always have on the steering wheel.
To be honest it was a heart over head decision, I went for it because the X3M was my perfect spec & I got what I thought was a good deal.
I don’t regret it, the X3M is fabulous. Would I do it again? In the circumstances yes. Did it make sense to upgrade? No!
As to whether the decision would work for anyone else, I think it depends on individual circumstances & preferences.
Both cars are great, I’d say in general & for most folk, as a premium performance SUV, the M40i is all the car you’d really need, but the X3M just feels that bit more special.
