G80 M3 Questions
Discussion
Hi, I’m looking for a lightly used G80 M3 and can’t really decided between salon or touring.
I think the touring perhaps looks a bit better and is a little more practical but also seems to be a little more pricey.
Has anyone experience with real world mpg on a long steady motorway journey? I’m fine with 20mpg when doing 10 miles around town etc. but I do a 140 mile work journey 6 times a month so would hope 30 mpg is achievable given it’s nearly all in the 50 zone on the M1.
In terms of spec the base M3 looks like it has nearly everything. Is there anything key I should be looking for?
Any thoughts from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, 34mpg is good going and would be happy with that.
I’ve tried sitting in the seats but i didn’t actually find them that comfortable, it was the bit between the legs I didn’t like so think I’m looking for comfort spec.
Am I correct in thinking visibility pack is just the laser lights?
Looking at the spec I think I’d like a heated steering wheel but other than that I’m not sure there are any others which are essential for me personally.
Budget wise for a low mileage 23 plate I’m think low 60s should be achievable.

I don't get anywhere near 34 but i can get 29-30. I’ve tried sitting in the seats but i didn’t actually find them that comfortable, it was the bit between the legs I didn’t like so think I’m looking for comfort spec.

Vis pack is laser lights. It also has the full DRLs rather than just the bottom part.
Comfort pack gets you Heated wheel, comfort access.
Other one to think about is the Tech pack which gives you ACC, Park Assist.
Thanks, that’s helpful.
What’s the view on pricing of these. A 23 plate saloon with low spec seems to be around 65k for a BMW dealer. Anyone got a view on what the trade price on these are?
Anyone got a view of São Paulo Yellow. I know it’s personal choice on colour but do you think these should be slightly cheaper?

I’ve averaged about 28MPG in over 100k across my 10 G80/82’s. It’s easy to get 35MPG on a run.
Spec wise, Comfort, Visibility and Tech packs are essential for decent miles and resale. The 2 other must have options for me are the buckets and full leather which makes the interior a much nicer place. However, not everyone suits the buckets so try both first.

The buckets don’t really add much value as the market is so split on their appeal. The three main packs are the most important options as they are the most sought after.
I’ve had 9 with the buckets and one only without which tells you my view on them. Forget the aesthetics, the driving experience is very different with the buckets, and actually I find them more comfortable over long distances.
Don’t get hung up over xDrive either. My RWD cars always felt slightly sweeter to drive so I would always take a higher spec RWD over a lower spec xDrive.

I think I need x drive due to where I live and that the car is going to be a daily all year round.
The car I’m looking at most at the moment only has the comfort pack so perhaps is a bit light on spec.
I put the reg number into WBAC and it’s £12k less than the sticker price. This seems a lot more that I would have expected. Anyone got any views on this?

So been chatting to a dealer about a car for a few days last week. They’ve had the car for close to 3 months and I’m thinking there must be a deal to be had. Today, I noticed they have put the price up by £1.5k! The dealer said they would honour the previous price but I’m amazed at pricing like this. I suspect they think they’ve a lot of interest due to my multiple clicks on Autotrader! Given I was looking for a £1.5k discount from the lower price I’m moving on with my search!

Currently a shortage of stock at the moment so used car prices are creeping up again. You snooze you lose etc. Most dealers would give you the opportunity to buy at the old price, but if you’ve already expressed interest but if you’ve already been faffing around for a week they probably think you’re wasting their time. Yes, I’m not in a rush. I’m certainly not time wasting but I’m not rushing into buying something I’m not sure on. The colour is sau Paulo yellow which seem to hang around longer than most. Suspect prices will soften as we head into winter after the budget.Edited by NelsonM3 on Monday 21st October 21:29

If you can find one, get full leather too. Really lifts the cabin in terms of quality.
The SP yellow is a little challenging but if it floats your boat go for it. i'd never advocate speccing a car for the next owner, but beware that colour is niche!
This is mine btw.
Yeah that looks great. What spec have you gone for? Is that black? Have you had it long? The SP yellow is a little challenging but if it floats your boat go for it. i'd never advocate speccing a car for the next owner, but beware that colour is niche!

Had it a year. Black Sapphire Metallic, Fiona Red Full Leather interior, and the three packs you should look for (Comfort, Tech, Visibility). Colour is a personal choice but i think the G8x looks better in darker colours and black interior can be a bit boring.Hamperman said:
Great spec.
Odd question for an m3 but what mpg do you get on a long run? I’ll do a 300 mile round trip most weeks nearly all motorway so ideally would like 30+ per gallon.
It is possible, I can see from my app that my first trip was 31.3mpg, I have had a few more at 31.x. My best was 34.5 in April. In fact my average in April was 32mp so just shows you the lack of miles I do Odd question for an m3 but what mpg do you get on a long run? However the right foot is addictive and generally my average is around 24.
I'm running Super Unleaded, and have not used anything else.
