Afternoon,

I’ve just agreed to buy a M4 2015 next week with a dealer here in the south west. Does anyone have any recommendations for insurance? Ive just checked and they’re eye watering, it won’t impact my purchase as I’ve agreed, been invoiced and agreed a trade in on my car.

But, going from £330 on a 640i to £1500+ is a bit of a shock. I knew it would be more expensive but are there any specialists rather than a load of high street insurers who look like they really don’t want my custom.

Thanks.

I’ve had similar issues during my research. The biggest issue for me is the enormous “compulsory excess” they want for an M4 (about £800), versus an M2C (about £200).

Maybe it’s all the superstar playa playa pimps crashing their modified M4s (with no modifications mentioned to their insurers no doubt) that have sent prices rocketing on this particular M car…

Likewise checked insurance tonight and the compulsory excess is eye watering. £1750 in total including a £500 voluntary.

I’m paying £560 with Elephant for an M2C so not bad - over 50, clean license etc.

Adrian Flux quoted £1700 though! Couldn’t believe the difference.

Thanks all. I’m 48, full clean licence for over 30 years but only 15 years no claims, I had several company cars 20 years ago and messed up my no claims as they’d only provide some evidence at the time. But I’ve not had an accident (of any fault )

Putting the excess up to £1000 gets me quotes of £950 to £980. I just paid £1800 for my daughter on our Polo so anything under £1k seems cheap now I’m happier with that!

£560 seems like a bargain, you must live in a nice postcode ! How are these 18 year olds with big mods affording these? They can’t all be financial day traders

I can’t wait until next weekend!! I shall post photos like a proud father!

Insurance cost stopped me buying a 2016 M6 last year. Many refused to quote because, seemingly because 2016 models were most stolen. Those that did wanted £1500 or more.

I paid about £400 for my 2006 M6, which clearly is not as at much risk of theft hehe

What kind of numbers are you getting from the comparison sites?

I've got a 2018 M4, 49 yrs old, one claim (non fault, but still a claim), crappy postcode and I just renewed last month at just under £900. Thats with a compulsory excess of £500 and voluntary of £250. That's with Aviva, but it was through one of the comparison sites, meerkat one I think, but all of the comparison sites were within a £100 of each other.

Managed to get it for £1000 after a bit of shopping around and increasing the excess with swiftcover. Loving the car so far
