Just spent 20 minutes looking at the M2 , first time looking at the car properly BMW have made an awful looking M car no doubt .
Wheels look completely lost and the add on bits just make the car even less appealing.
The interior is very good but why would you buy such an awful design, looked to see how many cars are available second hand and there’s a lot don’t think dealers are going to shift these at £60k plus .
I believe it’s a good car to drive not surprised given the cars wider track but hell it’s an ugly, boring thing.

Ultimately, while it may look too different now, BMW usually get it right in time - it's just we take a while to catcch up and accept their design advances. Look at the Bangle era cars. Surely you want a new design to create a reaction rather than be just the same old same old.
If you want really ugly just go to Tesla

I definitely get your point and that has proven to be the case with many manufacturers new offerings but there is a big difference between a very poor design and a new design direction.
I think the market is rejecting the car based on its design .
BMW as a brand got this one wrong.
Just look at the amount of low miles M2s that are available on PH and other popular sites not to mention BMWs own used site.
Clearly and without question miles off previous M cars.
How many customers went from M car to new model M2 , I am guessing not many particularly when you see it in the metal.
Perhaps designers are confused as to what the customer wants and the electric car deadline has added more uncertainty to designing a new car for ever growing markets on different continents like Asia.

I think they look horribly dated. Like most people, I took a while to adjust and then I caught up and everything else looked tired next to them, but as time has passed since they've started to look like an awkward blot on BMW's timeline. That's just me though.I was looking at my OG M2 the other day and for the first time I looked at it and thought it had dated. My F80 M3 Comp still looks new though in my eyes. However the M2 has dated in a good way if that makes sense in the way an E36 and E46 have dated.
The new M2 looks way more aggressive compared to the previous car but it looks too boxy. The design just looks ugly.

I think they got the whole new 2 Series coupé range wrong. The glass house looks like it's been lifted straight from the old model, it has none of the new design language. From the side, below the window line, it looks like a late 1990s Nissan Skyline GTR. The nose, from the side, looks like a Nissan GTR and the rear reminds me of a Holden HSV for some reason. It's a complete dog's dinner. I was really hopeful for the new 2 Series Coupé after the mess the made of the 4 Series Coupé but there's no solace to be found there.

The E90 M3 looks mint.I think my 2018 F82 M4 looks ancient now in comparison to the G82 M4 as well. But I guess that is the idea from a car manufacturers perspective though, and they want to try to get you into the current generation of car I think.

Usually M cars make the rest of the range seem a bit anaemic and comparatively unappealing, but I find the new ‘normal’ 2 series, f8or example the 240i (which in itself is a little quirky) to be a lot better to look at than the m2. Can’t say that’s happened before.
I'm tempted to agree with you... I think the 240 is possibly the better looking car in certain angles but the wider arches and stance of the M2 gives it that aggressive look but of course driving them is another thing, I really can't stop smiling in the Manual M2..[ur|https://thumbsnap.com/nXTkBUGh[/url]
Reverend I can’t remember any M model receiving such stick over the looks as this M2 .
You could understand some liking or disliking any new car but this is just a poor effort no excuses, no arguments it’s a truly ugly disappointment.
The shame is it seems to be a really good M car to drive.
To my eyes another really poor effort is the dash of the new GR Yaris that’s M2 awful.
Being more positive about design a friend retired and bought Alpine A110 which to me eyes is a stunning design.

In my biased opinion the proportions and the design details, grille size, functional front wing ducts, of the F8x are still hard to beat.
I’ve driven a new M2 and did like it, but it’s not managed to lessen my love for my current beauty
As an aside, a new M2 with bucket seats would probably cost me twice what this is.

Just to add some balance to the OP.....
We ordered our new M2 back in Feb and have had the car since Oct.....in these 4 months, we've really got to experience all the car's angles and views in all different lights etc and not just a 20min walk around a car parked at a dealership that had clearly been garnished in all the trinketry from the M performance catalogue.
To say that the car has been rejected by the market is incorrect. In the US, many dealers are still charging overs for these.
Our dealer, Jardines had just 4 allocations for 2023, one of which had to be a demonstrator, so with approx 267 uk dealers, that could well account for many of those on Autotrader, as these cars come to market. That and the general decline of luxury and sports car sales due to the current market issues. (Porsche anyone!). Many new car orders have been cancelled due to finance rates alone.
We've had many sports cars over the years, but this M2 has received a lot of positive interest.
We love the brutish design and BMW should be commended for trying something different and also for making the car in the first place, particularly with a manual option.
As for the way it drives.....we'll that's fantastic. It offers performance beyond a base 911 and Cayman GTS and bonkers though it may be, offers good value by comparison. The dyno run videos on line seem to indicate that the engine is putting out nearer 500ps and I've seen timed 0- 60 runs of 3.7 secs.
I've watched all the UK main reviews and they range from very good to excellent. Chris Harris clearly rates it very highly and helpfully offers useful advice to all those that say it's ugly!!
Is the design perfect? No.....the front centre of the grill needs a lower section/splitter and some of the rear detail is a bit jarring to the eye, but otherwise I really like it and I've never owned a car that looked good from all angles.
As always, looks and paint colours are subjective and this is only my opinion. Personally I don't like grey cars, but plenty do. I like black wheels, but many don't. Just because an individual doesn't like it, doesn't mean it's a bad design etc.
