Getting used to new to me f87 M2 competition
Discussion
I haven’t had many performance cars, but had an Audi S3 DSG (remapped) for a year but sold a while ago and have a Cayman 981S PDK.
Picked up 20 plate M2 competition a couple of weeks ago, just a toy (like the 981S) and am finding a few things a little odd particularly compared to the S3 and 981S:
Lack of a dynamic mode means you have to select M1 or M2 to actually get any performance. So you find yourself switching between efficient if just cruising or M1/M2 to have a drive, overtake etc.
D3 on the gearbox seems somewhat dump (particularly compared to sport on the 981S). If you accelerate then hold revs or ease the accelerator it seems to hold onto the gear forever, rather than going up a gear to reduce revs. So now I just have M1 set to Sports and D2 and M2 set to sports plus and S3 - which I am really enjoying.
Oh and of course the wireless phone charging that overheats my iPhone!
Now could just be my exceptionally average driving or I need to get used to the BMW way of doing things :-)
Don’t get me wrong, I am really enjoying the car, just having to go through some adjustments. Unless I am just doing it all wrong?

M button just allow you to set a few parameters with steering, track, and throttle. The performance is always there, efficient, sport and sport plus are just throttle maps I think, I usually always am in sport and efficient I find pretty horrible. DCT I cant comment on as I have manual.
Go get yourself a remap, and a gearbox CS software applied.

Thanks this this, a useful video!Shouldn’t be needing to switch to an M mode from comfort for an overtake I have an F82 M4 which I believe is the same engine and probably a heavier car and I drive in comfort mostly and it has no issue at all with overtaking.
I find comfort mode better at this time of year as the lazier throttle response stops the wheels spinning off the line in the cold conditions
