Right so I'm now looking at quotes for an f10 m5

I live in South London
Nearing 40
Married
Home owner
Etc

Prices seem punchy, I didn't expect it t be cheap but my rs275 megane which is fairly modified etc is well under a grand. This M5 initial quotes were all over 3k, best so far is 2.3k. I haven't got on the phone yet ans suspect most decent quotes will be phone calls

Will call Adrian flux first thing tomorrow

Any other recommendations, what sort of prices are people paying?

Insurance on M cars in town has gone through the roof. I spent ages shopping around, ended up paying £1.5k with Boom for a two year old X3M Comp in East London, thats with a clean licence, being over 50 & no claims apart from windscreen a year ago. They also required me to have a S5 tracker fitted, which I was going to do anyway

Mine's due to renew in October, similar to yourself, 55 with full no claims but just outside Glasgow.

I was £785 with Churchill but they've just informed me that they won't be renewing the policy.

Best quote I could get for a like for like policy was £1,400 with Darwin, who I believe are an offshoot of Churchill and underwritten by the same people.

Recently swapped from an M240i to an F82 M4, insurance on the M240i was £550, insurance on the M4 is £1500.

I'm 42 with 10 years plus no claims and no points.

M cars are brutal on insurance.

Have newer M cars been particularly affected recently?

My E46 M3 was insured through A-Plan in April for £700. Looking at M2 OG and F80 M3 at the moment as a replacement. M2 is £2k and M3 nearer £4K.

Granted that’s price comparison sites, but I was expecting no more than £1,500 tops

£996 renewal with Admiral on my 4 year old F90, not bad compared to some quotes on here but still 50% up on last year!

A quick check on Confused.com came up with a best quote of £923. Over 50, parked on drive in suburban north west.

I'm going to do the usual phone call to get best price, but it seems higher insurance is a fact of life at the moment.

Elephant who I've been with for 20 years, tried to go from £600 to £1300 for the F10 M5, went through the leavers process and negotiated down to £800 after doing the usual comparison searches that come up with obscure insurers with the lowest being around the £750 mark.

Is yours modded? I have a 21 plate X3M and just renewed with Admiral for £938. 37, clean licence but one claim.

I've renewed with AXA earlier in the month and paid under £500 for the year (10k miles, business use, premium cover etc). I wonder if it is the newer cars that are being stolen more and so command the higher premiums.

I only have an "M sport" G21 but my Coop insurance renewal came up 100% more than last year. Based in London central, no garage.

I had decent results using moneysupermarket, but even then it came up at over 50% more than last year, unless I accepted having a black box fitted (which I stronly oppose).

What I finally did was to go on the BMW insurance plan, which is monthly only, in the hope that prices might come down a bit in next couple months.

Nope, mine is a 21 plate too & its stock. Maybe its the ‘lower’ excess, mine is £450
Other than that I can only put it down to where I live in East London, & that its street parking only. I never thought it was a bad area but I noticed the other day that any reasonably nice car parked in the road has a steering wheel lock on it, & a Range Rover Sport even has a wheel clamp. It feels like the 1980’s all over again! A couple a weeks ok a Range Rover got stolen round the corner, & the scummers used an angle grinder to cut the steering wheel lock off of it!
Of all the clever innovations we never knew we needed, I really think keyless entry has got the be about the worst, & we’re all paying for it.

I think all area's have it bad, Birmingham and the nice surrounding area's are always getting cars nicked off the drive. two weeks ago two lads on a loud motorbike came up our private drive with blacked out visors and gloves on luckily we was home and they went off to nick a Golf R.

Range Rovers, Range Rover Sports and Audi RS models are particular favorites round here.

I am in shock and awe. 45-year-old, no claims or convictions, 16 Years No Claim. I have had a F10 M5 for 7 Years its always shy of £1k. Got a quote for the newer M5 Competition 20 Reg. £5k is the cheapest quote I got. What the hell is going on? I will stick to the F10 M5 for more years now.

Wait till you get your renewal for the F10.

Mine went from £900 to £1,600 this year. Even my M140i daily went from £800 to £1,300.

I did think about chopping them both in and getting a single do it all car, like you I got some quotes for the F90 M5 and it was about £5k. Pretty much anything interesting was about the same.

This year i've sucked it up and paid, but next year is going to be interesting.

Surely insurance costs have to get back to normal at some point?

F10 got renewed in July. Went from £850 to £990. Why is the M5 competition new shape £5k?

If this continues M cars are going to flood the market. I have 16 years no claim and no points and no claims. These costs will wipe out this performance car market and it will be for millionaires only.

Some interesting info in this thread, thanks. A friend is being quoted some crazy numbers for a 45e X5 in London.

A-Plan, now Howdens Thatcham has been good for me, albeit on an E46 M3. I pay £700 in Reading, age 28 with all the mods declared.

Saying that I’ve checked an F80 M3 and that’s come in at 2 grand!
