F10 M5 Service schedule - are these intervals odd?
Discussion
So I am looking at an AUC
but now trying to get my hands on the actual service schedule I can see the running in services was done at 1500 miles ish - fine
the next services was then done 2 years later at 34k miles. Firstly thats a loty of miles in 2 years but shouldnt that have been serviced much sooner?

1200 miles MAX on RIS, that's over the limit avoid unless BMW ok it.but now trying to get my hands on the actual service schedule I can see the running in services was done at 1500 miles ish - fine

OK so I've been sent some more info, looks like there was another service at c.18k not showing on I drive for some reason.
Car is AUC coming with 2 years fully comp BMW insurance so BMW have def OKd it.
It's a 1 owner car on c55k miles, so I think that maybe was just an anomaly.
Gonna see if they can amend idrive nor sure if that's possible!?

It'd had services since then all at short intervals, most was 10k, so it was just that missing service that was the issue.
They have said they can't amend the idrive, did you get an old entry changed on your z4 or was it just adding a current entry?
They seem to be saying they can't add in service that happened back in 2016

Hey Angry Dog appreciate the reply
What would you hope to see here?
In full I have a pretty comprehensive service list - looks like they used the car a lot in the first two years but still regular service and the services are all within the timeline for the car, and BMW HQ, to be happy:
Jan 2016 - 1.5k
Jan 2017 - 18k
Dec 2018 - 33k
Feb 2019 - 35k
Mar 2021 - 45k
Feb 2023 - 52k
Sep 2023 - 54k (dealer selling the car)
any thoughts?
As I say it is coming with a fully comp BMW warranty for 24 months

Crack on and get the car.
In my opinion there's nothing wrong with that service history, others will obviously disagree with me and that's fair enough.
I think there's a lot of internet doom mongery around these cars and there always has been around the M Cars in general.
I've had a few over the years, E36 M3 Evo, E39 M5, E92 M3 and the current F10 M5 and as I said on the other thread I've only ever serviced them as and when the car flagged up it was due, nothing more.
When I had these cars, if you were to read the internet forums, it was a virtual certainty that they were going to suffer a mechanical disaster that would cost multiple thousands of pounds to rectify.
With the E36 and E39 vanos failure was the bogeyman.
I ran the E36 from 40k to 85k miles with no issues. I ran the E39 from 40k to 108k miles and had to replace a vanos solenoid which was a few hundred pounds.
With the E92 it was rod bearings, I ran it from 27k to 57k miles with no issues, which admittedly isn't that high a mileage and the current F10 I bought with 30k miles and it's now on 47k and again no mechanical issues.
Anyway, regardless of all the waffle above, you've got a 24 month BMW warranty, so buy it, drive it, enjoy and leave the worry to the warranty company.

For me to buy that car I would want to see the first service post running in at no more than 10k, then another at no more than 20k and so on, preferably less. What would you hope to see here?

15k service intervals is way too long on really thin oil. nearly 2 years between the 2nd and 3rd service is also way too long, that oil would have been in terrible condition. Same with the Feb 2019 to Mar 2021 service.
It's not my money, but if it was I wouldn't be spending it on this car. As you're buying it though, be aware that you'll struggle to sell it to anyone who like me understands that the service schedule is too long and also get the dealer to confirm that the car has never had a remap before. If it has, they will invalidate the warranty.
Thanks all I'm still thinking it over.
It's had no remap, confirmed in writing by BMW.
Its also had only 1 older owner since new.
If I could wait for a car with better history I'd be tempted but there seem to be increasingly fewer BMW AUC m5s and to then also find one with yhe right spec.....

Now that you provided the full history, the RIS is ok, I would have wanted shorter intervals between the RIS and the 1st and 2nd service, but still within limits, so if everything checks out and it has the spec you are looking for, then go for it. And keep it in warranty going forward - enjoy!

I'm assuming this is the car on the BMW website at Sytner Sunningdale. It's had no remap, confirmed in writing by BMW.

I'll be honest, with 1 owner, confirmed to have had no remap, what I think is a good and complete service history and a 2 year warranty, that car's got a lot going for it. It's a good price and looks to be in immaculate condition also.
Obviously it's your choice whether to proceed, but I think you could wait a while for a better car to come up, they're getting thin on the ground now on the BMW site.
