Service History 2019 M4C
Discussion
Hi guys. I wonder can any of you help me out here...
I'm offloading my M4C, for various reasons, which are nothing to do with this post.
Obviously I bought the car as FBMWSH, as an approved used, etc etc. A dealer looking at taking my car tell me there is an oil service missing from the iDrive. He says an oil service should have been done in 2020, after the running in service. But as a customer looking at the service history on the iDrive, it looks complete with all green ticks. You'd think a missing service would be there greyed out as incomplete or somthing wouldnt you? I didnt take the car until 2022 btw.
So, does anyone know, if indeed an oil service would be done that early in ownership?
I mean it's condition based servising isnt it? The oil wouldnt be bad after a few months and just a few thousand miles?
Where to do you find the service / running in requirements of this model (F82)? Where did the dealer get his info?
I'm not disbelieving this dealer by the way (Mini). I just don't want to accuse the originsl main dealer of selling me a car as FSH when it's actually not, until i have facts.
I should say the car has not missed a beat and I've had not so much as a minor warning light. If circumstances were different I'd keep this car.
I just think what's the point of having details of what has been done, and not what hasn't been done on the service history. If that is indeed the case?
Any thoughts guys?

I have no idea what he is talking about, a tactic to knock you down?
My m2 competition (same engine) had its break in oil change at 1250m, the next oil change was at 9.6k miles and 2 years later, all fine.

I think it must be the break-in oil change he's on about? Is that the same as the running in service? The on-car service histry goes from the 'running in service' which was done, to a brake oil service.
The deal is already done taking the M4 into account. So I think there's maybe some confusion.

Sorry when I said break in oil I meant running in, yes your car should have had the run in oil change around 1200miles, but if you didnt or it was late it would flag up amber or red on the idrive as a late or failed, so again doesnt make sense, might be easier to post your full service history from your idrive on here to checkI think it must be the break-in oil change he's on about? What is the build date of the car and the subsequent dates and mileages of all services it’s had.
We might be able to see a potential issue then.
27.11.18 - predelivery inspection. 4 milesWe might be able to see a potential issue then.
01.05.19 - running in sevice. 1174 miles (oil would have been changed here right?)
18.06.21 - brake fluid service 10218 miles
This is the area he's on about. Says a missing oil service in 2020
Sounds like it's academic now as you've got a deal lined up, but based on the history above I'd have expected to see a big service in 2021, or prior to you buying the car in 2022 at the latest.
Isn't the CBS the LESSER OF mileage or two years (hence I'd expect something in 2021)?

Yes thats why he needs to confirm when the first oil change was after the run in, if it was shortly after the brake fluid in 2021 or at the same time this would in theory be OK,
But OP has not confirmed when first oil change physically was after the run in
The op has listed the history of the car. I think that’s the point, it hasn’t had once since the run in. But OP has not confirmed when first oil change physically was after the run in
Unless he forgot to add it which seems unlikely.

Oh, I had no idea that was all of it! yes if thats all you have since 2019 you are missing more than one service! should have had spark plugs and major too by now! Unless he forgot to add it which seems unlikely.

Let me do this properly. In quotes is what's on the car's iDrive under that service.27.11.2018 - PRE-DELIVERY SERVICE. 4 miles
'Service carried out'
01.05.2019 - SERVICE - 1174 miles
'Running in check - service carried out.'
18.06.2021 - SERVICE - 10218
'Brake Fluid check - service carried out'
19.10.2022 - SERVICE - 17281 miles
'Engine Oil, Vehicle Check, Micro-filter, Air cleaner element.'
15.06.2023 - SERVICE - 19823 miles
'Brake Fluid - sevice carried out'.
For sure, since I had the car last October, everything has been carried out.
Possibly the oil was changed at running in service? But there's no way of knowing - which is what the dealer points out.
This dealer looking at taking the car is admanant that an oil service should have been done in 2020. If this is the case and it wasnt done, then yes this car has technically been mis-sold. Which affects everything from finance to warranty. Not to mention, the possible harm to an expensive M engine. If it was done at running in service, then it wouldnt have needed to be done in 2020. Once again, we don't know, and that's the worse thing.
Just to note, I have now moved this M4C on. My deal went through earlier today.

The on-board service notifications give 2024 as major service. Not before. This year, was brake fluid back in June, and MOT due October - then from memory vehicle check and oil service 2024. No mention of spark plugs etc.To be honest that onbaord service history and upcoming is useless - there's no way of clarifying any of it. Whatever happened to the old stamp book and folders and folders of receipts and invoices etc?

You can clarify the servicing at any BMW dealer its all on the key To be honest that onbaord service history and upcoming is useless - there's no way of clarifying any of it. Whatever happened to the old stamp book and folders and folders of receipts and invoices etc?

2019 running in service = engine oil change and differential oil change
2021: brake fluid = no engine oil changed.
It should have had an oil change in 2021, the one in 2022 is a year late
And that brake fluid change is a year early, surely? My car (same engine) has just passed three years and had a brake fluid change along with MOT, whereas last year (year two) was first major service and included engine oil. Seems a bit odd from the prior owner?2021: brake fluid = no engine oil changed.

The onboard service history is a great idea. But it's open to abuse, and can be dodgy. This car highlights this. And to be fair, to me it highlights the question, 'are the main dealers the people to look after these M cars?' When I bought the car, I asked the saleman about the crank hub issue. His eyes just glazed over, he didn't know anything about it. And he wasn't about to find anythign out about it either. Not being funny, it feels like I got a lucky escape.
