do i go back to an M car....
Discussion
Hi All,
So I used to have an OG M2 LCI and loved it, dream car!
However due to work and a new baby the car just sat in the garage and didn't get used as it wasn't big enough, so I decided it was time to move it on and free up some money/space. I did very well due to the used car market last year and sold it for £500 less than I paid which was a bonus.
Since then I have just been in a company car which is not doing it for me, yes it saves me some money but I like cars to much to have a normal car and nothing special at home. I have managed nearly a year without buying anything, which the Mrs is impressed with.
I have been looking at 2017-19 M4 Comp pack cars as they seem like I might be able to use it with the family so would get more use in my mind. My friend has recently bought an M4 and says it’s no issue with a baby seat which is great news.
Value wise on the M4 comp pk cars around late £30s seems a good price with good miles and owner. I know a car will always lose money but surely these cant drop that much over the next few years with a few extra miles on?
So basically, is the M4 good for 2 adults and baby seat in back? values thoughts on how steady with would be?
Thanks,

having struggled with baby seats over the years I would personally look at an M3 rather than M4 plus in my opinion they are a better looking car, subjective I know.
Like you driving is such a big event in every day, if you don't get a thrill when you start it up each morning and evening then it's another day wasted

Comp Pack suspension is a pain, frankly, in every day use.
Too stiff and not compliant enough. With a small child I'd imagine it is even more annoying unless you only drive on smooth roads.
If you are going down that route, I can vouch for my old M3 (FX17 ODT) which is currently at Sytner Leicester.
Silverstone, 40k miles, 2 owners, £38K exactly.
Well cared for car that I really enjoyed for the past 4 and a bit years.
I wouldn't have run a Comp Pack with a baby or small kids though, and definitely not an M4.
Just my two pence worth.

Just to note this would be for a car along side my company car as that does all the boring bits.
The M3 would be the sensible options with more doors but there seems to be more choice of M4’s, slightly better value in my mind and normally less owners than the average M3

If all you're considering is either an F80 M3 or F82 M4, then it's the M3 everyday and twice on Sunday.
100 times better looking and less common. It also seems to have less of a stigma attached to it.
If you do get one, and want to tune it, make sure you get the crank hub work done and an equal length exhaust system.
