E60/E63 V10: Parallel Parking
Discussion
I’m looking for a bit of advice please: I’m thinking about buying an M6 (I’ve read the guides about bearings/ clutch / brakes as being big bill items which are acceptable to a certain extent) and my biggest concern is that I live on a hill with on street parking - I have a drive but that’s also on a hill and requires a bit of shunting back/forward to get in. Reading the guides and comments about clutch use / wear what is the real life experience of parallel parking and if on a hill how much would it affect the clutch life?
I know that sounds a bit like a silly question but having read some things I need to go into this with as much knowledge as possible.
Many thanks in advance.

Based on my experience in the SMG on an E46 M3:
It's absolutely doable, but I would imagine the clutch will get more wear than usual. The SMG does like to slip the clutch when going uphill, and would be even more so during parking uphill.
Make sure you know about the hill hold feature on the SMG, it will help you park uphill, but will wear the clutch more than usual.
I'm sure it wont eat clutches overnight, but expect more wear than usual. How much? I have no idea.

Pretty much worst case scenario for the SMG - in normal traffic it is absolutely fine IF used as a manual gearbox, but parking manoeuvres and especially on a hill would be frustrating as the clutch bite point is difficult to judge, and there is no creeping in the SMG, unlike an automatic gearbox.
