You are probably well aware but in case not...you are supposed to ensure there is little difference in tread depth between tyres side to side and front to rear to avoid extra strain on the differentials if fitting a single tyre (or any number of tyres less than a full set)

This is the reason I am after just one.

When switching back from the winter tyres and wheels I noticed one of the summer rears had a small nail right in the middle of the tread... pulled it and psssst ...

Took it round to a well known tyre fitters who pulled the tyre from the rim and said yes that will be fine to repair and when they were putting the tyre back on the rim they tore a big hole in the sidewall...... but to be fair they ordered a brand new one (they struggled to get one then, ~ 4 weeks ago) and charged me nothing.

So there I was with 1 new tyre and 3 others with ~5mm of tread remaining. Have 2 new fronts coming from Camskill and 1 hopefully as above.... recon I will keep the 3 used ones as insurance against the law of sod....

Good plan....its a bit of a pain to have to keep them all at a similar wear depth but at least for my car they all wore out at a fairly even rate when they needed changing last time.
