Low oil indicator on, what oil do you guys use?

Well. If it's for cooking I tend to use vegetable oil or fry light..

For anything else, well that depends solely on the car and what oil is currently in it, as you don't really want to be mix and matching unless you plan to replace all of it, and even then, it depends on the car and if the warranty is expecting a certain oil grade to be used.

Are the M cars not all the same oil then?

Nope. E30 M3 or E60 M5 rather different requirements to a GX M3/M4, so knowing what car it is for would help

Is it a top-up or a complete oil change? If the former, use whatever the last service used.

For a complete oil change, the dealer will use 5W30 (Castrol Edge)
